| Yes, I remember Link Wray & his WrayMen. His big hit in 1958 (gee, 38
years ago) was a million seller, "Rumble". Wray introduced the
distorted fuzz-tone guitar sound with "Rumble", by puncturing the
speaker cone in his amp. His second (and last, I think) hit in 1959
was "Rawhide". His album "Link Wray" came out in 1971.

| Link Wray still tours regularly, although I believe he lives in
Scandinavia. He released a new album recently on the Norton label.
"Rumble" was a rare case of an *instrumental* record being banned from
airplay (I'm not sure if this was just a local issue in the States or
whether it was banned nationwide). Apparently, the authorities of the
day thought that the revolutionary fuzz guitar (this was 1958) could
instigate violence ;-)

| Link Wray recorded and toured for a while with rockabilly revivalist
Robert Gordon during the late seventies and/or early eighties.

| I saw that Robert Gorden/Link Wray tour at the Paradise Club in Boston
sometime in the early 80's. They opened for John Mayall. Link made a
remark about John Mayall that was dripping with sarcasm, ie: "I'm so
pleased to be opening for the "GREAT BLUES ARTIST" John Mayall" It was
really funny. Didn't say another word all night. Just rocked out big
time. I'd love to see him again. Then Mayall came on wearing a leather
vest and leather hot pants. No shoes. Very strange. The lead guitar
player had this formica type of board that he put a white powder on so
his shoes could slide around on. We left after a couple of songs. It
was just anticlimatic after Link.

| Thanks for all the replies. I guess those neurons are still intact.
I've given up on vinyl (LPs). Anyone know if Link Wray has put out
any CDs? I'll do the obvious and check at the record stores...
