| 3181.1 | Porta-FLex | MILKWY::JACQUES | Vintage taste, reissue budget | Mon Mar 04 1996 10:04 | 9 |
| | These amps are known as "Porta-Flex" amps. I believe there is a speaker
    cable that plugs into the head before the head is snapped down.

    I don't remember seeing these until the 60's. Are you sure it is from
    1954? Does this amp have swirled vinyl covering with chicken-head
    knobs. or the more modern look with the square Ampeg logo and round,
    silver front panel and round knobs?

| | Turns out the amp is an SB12 Portaflex. Not SB50.

    I think I saw one in a last year edition of Daddy's Used Gear. WIll
    check on the price...

| 3181.3 | cool amp | RICKS::CALCAGNI | what if dogs were one of us? | Wed Mar 06 1996 09:09 | 7 |
| | I have one of these myself. Like a mini-takeout version of an SVT.
    A great little studio/practice bass amp and also grinds pretty good
    for guitar when you crank it. The light-up logo panel is just too
    cool, too.

    I've seen em in the $300-$400 range, less if they're really beat.

| 3181.4 | 50's Ampeg??? | MILKWY::JACQUES | Vintage taste, reissue budget | Wed Mar 06 1996 09:39 | 7 |
| | Any more info on the age of this amp? My understanding is that the
    Porta-Flex did not appear until the tail end of the 60's. As a
    matter of fact, I don't think Ampeg was even in business until
    the 60's. Can anyone verify this?
