| | I'm amazed that he's still out there; haven't heard of anything from
    him for years.

The one thing I remember about Frank Marino was the legend that he took
too much acid, woke up in the hospital, and suddenly found he could play
like Hendrix. Probably bs, but to us young teenyboppers it was a cool
    story.

that's the way I heard the legend too, but also while Marino was
in a coma from taking too much acid, Hendrix's ghost came to him
and taught him how to play.

I remember reading that he used amazingly light strings, with
the high E being a .008 and the rest of the strings starting at
.009, so he had an unwound D that was like .015. WOuld make for
    good bends, I guess.

| | I read an interview with him and he seemed really obnoxious.
Almost in the Yngwie class of obnoxiousness.

He claimed that he invented two-hand tapping, taught Hendrix everything
    he knows, etc.

Ironically, I think the only thing I had ever hear him do was
uninspired covers of other people. Ironic for a guy who claims
to have originated everything that is good in rock guitar.

| | On his LP covers (including latest CD release), he records in
Montreal, Canada. Myself being Canadain,I was quick to notice
this and leads me to ask if Marino is canadian (although i would
presume it is safe to say no).

| | No I think you're right; Canadian it is.

Didn't his SGs have a Strat pickup or two added?

| | When I saw him it looked pretty stock.athough the tremolo looked a
little bizare. He did have a VERY customized pedal board in front of
him though.Seeing as this gig was in a small club,I quickly took it
upon myself to get a good lok at this beast. Quite scary looking, big
black and lots of switches. Some included(marked in black marker)Fuzz,
Octave,I think there was a WAH built in ,Chorus,(the octave i mentioned
being a octavia no doubt)and a number of others that just don't come to
mind right now.It was one of the best club shows i've ever seen.Could
be because of his style of playing ,mixed with the great sound that
night and the way that he just kept diving into Henrix riffs(majority
from BOG stuff) into his own material.Really made for a cool show.
Add way too many pints and you can picture me sqat cross-legged on the
floor in front of the stage shaking my head with my jaw in my lap.

| | I've seen his name on many different Groups Albums.
It seems he does A_Lot of Master/Final Mixing.
