| | The only things I've seen are terminal-based and they usually only show
    the full run of the scale up the neck.

|  |     BTW... this is the output of a program that I wrote last night;
    this program will be the starting point for the software I
    described in .0.

    Roman numerals correspond to mode based on a D Major scale.
    Stars (asteric) indicate notes that are in the scale. Numbers
    indicate finger, with 1 == index finger and 4 == pinky.
    Tuning is BEADGC (standard six string bass tuning). Finally,
    the number below the dashed line (----) indicates the fret
    number; 0 == open string.

| | Addendum to what Mikey said, the ones I've seen in here also didn't
    appear to support alternate tunings.

| | One thing about the output from my program that I posted earlier...

    the lowest string (pitch) is at the bottom, the highest string
    at the top... so, in the output I posted, the B string is on
    the bottom (near the dashed line), and the C string is on the
    top.

    In case this was not obvious...

    hey man, when I wrote software to do this, nobody used any
    of these namby-pamby alternate tunings except acoustic geeks :-)

    I just pulled a demo version of a guitar scale program (Guitar Magic) down from
    America On-Line a couple of days ago. The demo version only has the
    Major and Lydian scales for just two keys, but it does show you both
    standard notation and a neck diagram for the scales (and maybe
    different chord voicings too?). I lets you set a beginning and end
    point on the neck diagram and then shows you all of the scale notes
    between those points.

    The file to look for is GUITAR.ZIP - registration for the full version
    is only $15...

| | Seems to me like I wrote something like this years and years ago, but I
    have no idea what happened to it. I'm sure it was pretty primative...
