| | Daddy's Junky Music has several stores in the area, & they have a
network among them so you have access to anything they may have at a
    different location.

    I'm looking to get a Washburn EA20 thin acoustic/electric which has a
piezoelectric contact pickup built into what is basically an acoustic
guitar. From what I've seen, Washburn is cheaper than either Takamine
or Ovation, & they all sound about the same to me. (Watch me catch hell
for that !) You may also want to consider Framus & Epiphone (see other
note in this conference) for hollow body electrics.

There's a place in Porter square in Cambridge which has a wide variety
of instruments new & old, Daddy's prices will most likely be lower for
    similar stuff.

| | Electrified Acoustic: We call em Electric Acoustics !!!!
			Pretty original aye!!!!
Takaminie's price for something with a decent pickup in it, start
in the upper 400 dollar range, (last I looked anyway) and get
up into the $800 to $900 area... Personally, I like the older
Takamine's over the newer ones, for playability, sound and craftsmanship.
the Tak. thin bodies with the real nice PU w/EQ will probably be around
700 dollars, give or take...
re: 1, you won't catch hell from me,, I think ALL the acoustic
thin bodies sound the about same... I finally opted for a dreadnaught,
with a pickup,, more on that later...
say...
If you spy a real nice guitar, and you like everything about, except
it doesn't have a pickup, wory not,, there are several real nice
installable pickups you can buy for around 100 to 120 US dollars.
re: Dreadnuaght with pickup...
If your are looking to mdify a standard acoustuc,, the Fishmen Natrual,
for example, is a fine pickup.. I installed one of these in my 78 Yari,
replacing the Alvarez Stock pickup,, I added a Boss CE-7
on the side (7 band guitar EQ) and it sounds GREAT! Total cost was
a tad expensive,, 99 bucks for the Boss EQ, and 120 for the Fishmen
with installation,,, but in the long run, it's exaclty the combo
I was looking for.

| | There are a lot of great guitar stores in and around the Boston area.
Depending on how much time you've got, what I suggest you do is first
sit down and just get the yellow pages (in the phone book) out and
call a bunch of the stores asking them specifically for what you
want. Daddy's is a good store because it is located all over the
place (Worcester,Boston, and in New Hampshire) - I can give you the
number for the Worcester store: 508-797-4421. If you call them
they can check with all their stores and if the one in Boston doesn't
have what you want and another one does, then they can get it down
to the Boston store within a couple of days.

For just plain old guitar lusting - Porter Square is a fantastic place.
It is in Cambridge which is right next to Boston - There are two
fantastic stores there - Cambridge Music and The Music Emporium.
The Music Emporium is at 2018 Massachusetts Ave Cambridge MA.
Phone is : 617-661-2099. That place has the nicest acoustic guitars
around, except for New York City. Cambridge Music is just 100 meters
down the road from the Music Emporium and is great for used instruments
and amps. If you have the room on the plane, do yourself a favor
and pick up a nice old Fender Princeton/ or Reverb or whatever - they
have loads of them in their back room - all for around $300, which for
europe prices is fantastic. And they are great amps. I wish I brought
one over here (to Germany) the last time I was there. Two other places
you might want to just call are: MacDuffs Music 508-752-2704
(Worcester- about 1 hour from Boston) and Acton Music (Acton-40 mins
    from Boston - phone: 508-264-0299.

There's just ton's of stores to check out - look at Wurlitzers in
Boston as well. But if you have a lack of time, just use the phone
book. If you've got some time - take a day and check out Porter
Square and the other stores in Boston.

By the way - I have an Ovation Legend model 1672 - it's with the gold
hardware and is a stereo guitar, for sale - if you're ever in the
Munich area. You can reach me at kboeng::mackinnon. But if you're
over in the US - I would really recommend getting yourself a fine
all wooden guitar and having a pickup installed. Ovations really
are not all that hot - and with all wood you get a much nicer
real acoustic sound. But if you're bent on Ovations you should be able
to get a good deal there. By the way, there is a great newspaper as
well called the "WANT AD" - which usually has about 20 pages of
guitars/amps in it as well - being sold used, but through private
people. You can pick it up at any newstand or convenience store (like
a 7-11, or Store 24. Check that paper out as well - you will see some
    real deals in there.

    Good luck -
    Roy

ps: - check out the North End in Boston for sure - it's the Italian
section of Boston and is really excellent. You'll get a kick out
         of it.
