2685.0. "I coulda picked it out in seconds - name please" by FORTY2::KNOWLES (DECspell snot awl ewe kneed) Wed Mar 03 1993 06:04
    This is an acoustic guitar tune, classical, probably Spanish. Can
    anyone help me pin it down? I'm not really at home with all this
    black dots stuff, but this is the tonic sol-fa [I don't know
    the rules about writing this, but the melody's a regular 3/4, and
    I've used a tilde to represent a tie, # = sharp, b = flat, and
    is an octave higher]:

    3
    4	soh ~ fah 	|mi ~ fah	|soh ~ ~ 	|~ ~ ~
    	la  ~ ~   	|fah ~ la	|la soh ~	|~ ~ ~
    	doh ~ ~	|re ~ fah#	|la soh ~	|~ ~ ~
    	lab ~ ~	|soh ~ fah	|mi ~ ~	|~ ~ ~

    Now I think of the accompaniment (lots of tremolo), I think
    it's more likely 6/8, and my last 4 bars of 3/4 have the
    accompaniment

    6
    8	lab lab lab fah soh lab |soh soh soh soh soh fah	|
    	mi ~    ~    ~    ~    ~    |~   ~    ~    ~    ~   ~      |
    	[   soh  soh  soh  la   ti   |doh ~   ~    ~    ~   ~      ]

    And the line in [] carries on while the tremolo stays on the mi.

    This has been incredibly laborious, and there are probably errors
    in my transcription. But I hope enough of it makes enough sense
    for someone to recognize it. And if you know of a better conference
    to ask in, just shout.

    Thanks

| | I'm not sure if I'm reading that right (??), so this is just a guess,
    but it looks like it could be "Asturias" by Albeniz (not sure of
    composer either, would have to check)

    That piece is in Bm and has a repeating melody in the bass with an
    open 2nd string pedal point which starts as 8th notes and changes
    to triplets for a tremolo effect.

| 2685.3 | AKA Leyenda (sp?) | GANTRY::ALLBERY | Jim | Thu Mar 04 1993 07:14 | 6 |
| | By the way, Asturias is also known by the name Leyenda. The composer
    is Albeniz. Although the piece seems perfect for the guitar, it was
    actually written for the piano. I believe Segovia was the first to
    adapt it to classical guitar. I've also heard an orchestral version.

| 2685.4 | Not that one | FORTY2::KNOWLES | DECspell snot awl ewe kneed | Fri Mar 05 1993 07:32 | 5 |
| | I listened to Asturias last night. It's not the one. But what it _is_ is
what I've previously thought to be Recuerdos de la Alhambra. So I'll try
Recuerdos de la Alhambra.
