| | To elaborate just a tad on .1: On 48th street in the region of Avenue
of the Americas over to 5th avenue are about 10 guitar stores. You
could take the public transportation with a little advice from your
hosts about which stop to get off or a taxi driver could take you
    there.

There are both shops that sell new instruments and second hand stores.
Your eyes will glaze over after looking at thousands of guitars. I had
fun just looking, even though all I bought was a set of tuning
    machines.

| | Thank you all for the hints. I've heard about "Rogue Music" and now I
    know about 48th street.

What about keyboards? Do you know any 2nd hand shop in NYC? I know this
conference isn't the right place to ask that, but ...

Is there a "keyboard" conference in the E-net?

Yep! Keyboards are discussed in DNEAST::COMMUSIC. Press KP7 to add it
    to your notebook.

Can't tell you much about NYC. I was there once, I was kidnapped and
robbed (he called himself a taxi driver...)

Definately Rogue is good for used keyboards. They also have a
recently expanded guitar section..prices seem fairly reasonable.

There is a used guitar dealer on 48th st called "WE BUY ". They have
at least *200* used guitars stacked in the front window. The cheaper
models are *literally stacked* on top of each other. And they will
deal. Do not even think of purchasing a guitar there for the price it's
    marked at!.

Definately check out Manny's (across the street from WE BUY). This
store has been frequented by every big name rock star in the bizz. They
have a wall with autographed pictures of, for example, the Beatles, Yes
The Who, etc. with the owner or their new purchases. Manny's has some
big blowouts sometimes, or even a floor model at 1/2 price might appeal
    to you.

        Hope this helps..
