I need some help.
I have got a fender strat going into a Fender twin amp. My effects
pedal set up is a BE-5. I will be adding a wah wah to this within a
couple of weeks.
Questions.
1. Should I use the effects loop of the amp or go straight into the
input of the amp.
2. Should I use the second channel of the twin for that extra boost
needed during solo's (eg same setting as channel 1 (clean) but a few
dB louder) or use say the compressor level on the effects pedal for
the boost.
3. Does anyone have a similar setup that they are using live and if so
can you give me an example of your amp/effect settings ( we are doing
original and covers which range from pub rock (Free: All Right Now)
to Rock Ballads.
4. I may want to run an acoustic (YAMAHA WITH PIEZO PICK UP) through
the amp as well.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

PS I never ever had effects before I used to just go direct into the
amp.

1. I'd recommend using the loop - that's what it's there for.
It can be more difficult to match levels correctly if you
run straight into the amp's input. Whatever you do, make
sure the wah is in-line *after* any boost or distortion you
use. IMO, wah's sound terrible when applied before hi-gain
stages.
2. What's to prevent you from using both techniques for getting
boost? They will probably produce very different tonal qualities,
and may each be well suited to particular applications.
3. I use a 'live' effects configuration (alesis quadraverb) running
through my effects loop which works fine, but there are so many
different devices, and so many different ways to connect them
that experimentation is a worthwhile effort.

regarding the Acoutsic... I've found that you can really help get some of that acoustic tone to the amp with a 6 or 10 band graphic eq.. Given that one will never get the true acoustic sound that ou;d get out of a studio with a studio quality mic, the eq can help a bit.. Look in the used market... | |||||
