I'm looking for more help from you guys States side, cuz, as usual,
us poor Canucks don't see new toys here until many months after
release down there.
The last thing I need to buy for my home made six string (bass)
is the actives. I was going to buy Bartolini, and may still. But,
I just saw an ad in GFTPM about EMG actives for a bass. It's
probably new, cuz the boys here at Steve's Music don't have any
info.
It's called the "Equalizer", and I *believe* the model in EMG-BTC.
It has +/- 12 or 15 db bass and treble control, a four position
treble eq switch, centre detented pots. Looks like you get pot
mounted boards. Seein' as how I'm using EMG pickups, I thought it
might make a nice match, and be worth checking out.
The big questions.....
Have any of you run across these?
Any idea of price?.....this is real important!!
What business, down there, might I be able to order this from, if
I do decide to buy?
Any comments on EMG actives, in general?

| The EMG EQ circuit has been out for a few years. You can get it as an
option in some EMG equipped basses, the Steinbergers for example. Not
sure on the price, but an M-series Steinberger has a street price of an
extra $100 with the circuit installed. I believe it only works with
EMG pickups, BTW.

| As another idea, you may want to consider a Sadowsky pre-amp as well.
These are built and installed by Roger Sadowsky in his shop in NYC and
are very big with the studio players there. I believe his system can
be made compatible with any pickups on the market, since he'll put any
pickups you want in his custom basses.
I'd suggest giving Roger a call (or writing). He just started marketing
a belt-clip version of his pre-amp in the guitar mags; you should be able
to get his address and phone # there. I've talked with him a couple of
times on the phone, and he's always been friendly and helpful.

| This looks like the best place to ask this:
My Ibanez bass came with EMG "Select" pickups and an active ciruit. In
none of the (scant) literature I've seen on this model line (CT series)
have I seen anything that descibes these pickups. The ones I have are
"J" style, and there are two. Does anyone here know anything about them?
Are they "stacked" humbucking (or some other new-fangled thing) or are
they the single coils they look like?
Any info will be appreciated.

| EMG Selects are inexpensive passive pickups made in Korea to an EMG
design. They show up on a lot of cheaper imports as a "premium"
pickup. I believe all the Selects are humbuckers, but not sure of
that (never tried a bass with the J pickup).
