    Wah's are a blast but I tend to use them in cycles.  Go for the
    Screamer!  Then trade it to me for my Hotfoot.
    
    

    I guess it depends on what efx you really need to cover the tunes
    you wanna play. Of the ones you listed, a good distortion is
    probably the most versatile. A good compressor/sustainer would
    probably be my pick, as I feel I *MUST* have one to get *my
    sound*.
    
    The wah-wah is quite out-dated. That's not to say it's not
    useable. Stevie Ray Vaughan used one, and if your trying
    to get his sound, you'd need one. Jimmy Hendrix "Fuzz-face"
    are also quite outdated. They have a very differant sound
    from the modern distortion devices which some players want,
    but they are quite low-tech, and tend to be noisy.
    
    It's all opinion, and what your' personal needs are (pinned
    against what you can afford).

    Geez, someone needs to tell Eric Johnson that his fuzz and wah are 
    outdated.  He'll be shocked.  

    out of the list given I'd get the Tube Screamer or the RAT. I like
    both of them a lot. I use a RAT and like the wide variety of 
    distortion it can generate, from slightly overdriven to metal
    to cheesey shrill transistor meltdown sounds. Second choice would be
    some sort of flanger/chorus/phaser to give some subtle enhancement
    to the sound. Buy #1 and don't tell your SO, then ask for #2 for
    Christmas.

    Au contraire! Although it was out of style, the 
    wah has made quite a comeback. I'm hearing it 
    everywhere. Guns-n-Roses, new Clapton, SRV, Eric 
    Johnson, and a bunch more I can't think of. Haven't
    more metal bands been using them recently (Buck?).

    The strong point of the Tube Screamer is getting 
    that cranked Fender sound. The Rat is great for
    heavy cement mixer crunch and hi-gain leads. Both 
    are great units. I'd go for one of them depending 
    on your taste. Either one coupled with a crybaby
    is a great combo.

    I'd say the wah or the tube screamer.  I wouldn't recommend the
    flanger, I think that sound has pretty limited application.  However
    for the same money a chorus might be nice.

    	The lovely wife of Gree Vee King authorized him to send away for a
    Morley WAH/VOLUME/DISTORTION pedal (jeeze, if they'd only build reverb
    into this pedal it would be great).... Fellers, am I going to be able
    to replace my tube driver with the fuzz sound from the Morley Pedal??? 
    As most of you have suffered through, I don't really get the big
    distortion sound just overdrive things a little when the solos come!

    Even though I've never heard the Morley unit, I wouldn't count on it. 
    Most of the solid state distortions seem kind of limited in use to me.
    I like the tube drivers a *lot*!
    
    But then again, I used one of those Boss Turbo Distortion stomp boxes
    the other day and thought it sounded killer!  So, who knows, maybe
    you'll like it, but I think for the kind of music you play nothing will
    beat a cool Fender amp's distortion.  The tube driver probably comes
    close.

    Ibanez Tube Screamer    Don't know exactly what it does.

    other...?   One of those things you use with your mouth to make the
                tones?? I don't know what it's called, but they use it it
                Rocky Mountain Way.  That would probably be my 3rd choice.

    of those small Marshall micro stacks (the 12 watt ones).

    head, then you'll get a MicroVerb or something...

    FWIW - I think for your application the Tube Screamer and a
    CryBaby would be nifty.  While the whhhhaaaa is very application
    specific, the tube screamer would be good for about everything
    short of metal...  Very useful stomp, IMHO.

    My Christmas gift to myself this year was a nice, lil (nifty) foot
    switch.  I'm using it to switch the dual Master Volume controls on my
    JCM 900 head.  Works great, is quiet, and looks good.

    	Yeah, Greg, I hear you...  So far I've had fun with my tube driver
    (of course) an ibanez tube screamer that my teacher uses and believe it
    our not a RAT!!  As a matter of fact I thought that the RAT sounded
    pretty cool..  I don't use much distortion, I really use my box as a
    power boost (usually with distortion pot set way down) just to get my
    solos to cut through  the ummmmmm.... CURTAINS ON MY CELLAR WALL...
    Hahahahaha cos I don't play out anyway!!  But if I ever did, I bet my
    solos would cut through what ever it is that they's have to cut
    through....  So if Grevie King is gonna spend the rest of his musical
    career jamming to records in his basement, why bother??   Good
    question, Steve... I'll give it some thought.   Still waiting on my
    deluxe reverb to get back from my tube guy.. Thta's pretty exciting!!!

    I thought it was the cat's meow when I first picked it up.  Upon some
    experimenting with it for a while, I found it too limiting for the 
    type of stuff I wanted to do(the band at that time was covering a lot
    of covers that required at least 2 channels, and most of the stuff I 
    write tend to be that way, too.)  If you can put up with not having 
    footswitching ability, sure.  It's a good little practice amp.
    
    I kinda wish I hadn't traded that Peavy Audition Chorus in  for the
    Ministack...
    
    Now, if I can only convince Mesa/Boogie to come out with MK3
    Microstack...  ;)

    Well, I decided on getting the CryBaby for Christmas and am very
    happy with my choice.  Wurlizers(sp) in Worcester gave me a pretty
    decent deal on one.  I've already got a built-in overdrive on my
    amp(Dean Markley), so I can get a good variety of sounds out of
    it now.  I'm amazes me now how many guitarists have used this effect-
    from Hendrix to Vaughn, even Supertramp('Bloody Well Right'). I
    guess I'm just listening for it more now that I have one...

    	Yeow, you should be happy, Alan... I had ordered a Morely
    FUZZ/WAH/VOLUME pedal from american musical and it didn't ship in time
    for xmas.. buuuuummmmer [;^(  <-- Gree Vee King pouting at christmas. 
    I called em up and they told me that they held personal checks and that
    my order wouldn't go out for at least a year while they waited for it
    to clear.  Hmmm.. how cum Stew-Mac and Musician's Curse don't do
    that???  Anyways... I went down to a local music store and tried one of
    those pedals (yep, I had never used one before, dumb, huh??) and it
    SUCKED!!!  I've never heard anything sooooo sucky sounding.. The guys
    at the store said (and I quote) yeah, their TOP OF THE LINE pedals
    sound sucky.. their lower priced ones are pretty good though.. 
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.. am I glad I cancelled that order.. I'll do
    with a 59 dollar Crybaby and save a chunk of change!!!

   Yo, Greee-Veee,

   What s*cked about the sound?  The wah sound, or the fuzz, or what?
   I've been looking to replace an old unreliable Electro-Harmonix (get 
   this) "Muff Fuzz Wah Crying Tone Pedal" (that really is it's name, and
   yes, some people really did buy E-M stuff years ago - I've even got a
   "Big Muff", but don't tell anyone...).  I was looking at the Morleys
   'cause they're built like tanks, and use optics instead of pots.  I
   really just need the volume effect, but if the wah is useable I'd get
   the added feature.  Don't care about fuzz, though.

   BTW, the E-M pedal mentioned above actually was pretty good in it's
   day.  It's got a really stupid design for pot mounting and actuation
   though, and burns through pots at an amazing rate.  Though it's Fuzz 
   tone was never anythng to write home about, it has a wah that's 
   adjustable as to what freq. range it works on.  Cool.

   A friend had an old Morley "Echo Pedal" (yes, pedal) that used 
   a magnetic drum for delaying the data.  Now _that_ was weird.

    	yeah, I was looking at (had ordered, in fact) Morley for the same
    reasons that you state.. what I heard was a real noisy effect pedal. 
    Lots of scratchy stuff.. Also the wah started out OK but as the pedal
    got pushed to the metal (in wah mode) the volume got very high and the
    noise was ungodly.. I was expecting a super quiet effect and this one
    wasn't and I wasn't expecting huge volume changes when I moved the wah
    pedal.  The tone change from low to high was to damn abrupt to be
    usable... Heck I expected the thing to be at least as good as a dunlop
    cry baby.
    
    	Heh heh, I remember the EH stuff dude, I owned a big Muff and I
    heard of the crying tone pedal (but mostly it was just the audience
    crying during my early playing days... hahahahahahaaha.. more insane

    DOD has a small pedal, which (if I remember correctly) included a
    volume control, a Wah, and can also be used as an expression pedal.
    Cost is under $100.  Doesn't include distortion, but you could 
    always get something like a Tube screamer, or Boss HM2 (or whatever
    distortion pedal you prefer).
