Okay, partly to appease the people who say there's not enough technical
discussion in here and mostly because I'm curious, what do you (the
GUITAR NOTES community) like to play over a I-VIx-II-Vx. (In the
key of G, this would be G-E7-Am7-D7, or some alteration of these
chords). I know it depends a lot on on the speed/feel/etc. of the
song (e.g. Jelly Jelly Blues by the Allman Bros vs. Lay around the
Shanty and Put a Good Buzz On by ?), but how do you approach this
chord progression? The really tricky part is the transition from
G to E7, since there is that G# note in the E7 chord.
Thanks and have at it - Dave

Any combination of the following to me would work. Yeah, they're
the same notes but different riffs occur when I think I'm in a
different mode.
G G or Am
E7 A or Bm
Am7 G or Am
D7 G or Am
These are in addition to playing say, an E maj with a b7 note.
So, you could technically play Am, Bm, Am, Am - or G, A, G, G.
Mixing 'em up is where is sounds more creative to me.
Is this what you meant, Dave?

(In the key of G) I like playing a Bm7-5 or a Dm, between the G and
the E7
FWIW- Shanty was done by Jonathan Edwards

re .-1
yes, the E7 would be an alteration of the expected Em7. But I was
looking for stuff like Gmaj7-E7b9b5-Eb6/9-D13b9
- Dave who will post something when he has time to think about it
