| | Oh yeah...I often start a solo on the #11th/b5th tension...it creates
just that...TENSION...like, lets move this mutha somewhere folks!

That runs a close 2nd in my book!

| | Yeah Buck, I know what you mean about those 9ths and b7ths. Though I'd
probably put them the other way around (too many years of listening to
    blues and rock, I guess).

Then, to add a bit of spice, go to the 6th degree instead of the b7 -
it's a bit less bluesy, and a bit more "up". Of course, this takes
thinking about (damnit, finger, I wanted to go to the 6th, how'd you
end up on that b7 all by yourself? :^)

| | The 6th is growing on me rapidly....must be playing too much soul
    music.

The b5 is always good when you wanna make teeth grind...8^) 8^)

Seventh and sliiiiiiiiiide it! I like that little upside down
triangle that would make a d7 if it were played in 1st position... It
makes a nice barre too!!! Naa naa naa Naa naa naa Naa naa naa Naa naa
    naa, root, turnaround

| | I usually start in with the tonic, although I like the 3rd sometimes
for some immediate ongoing tension ( This of course does not include
the leading tones, which are more or less random ). I like to end on
the 5th or the 3rd ( of the chord, not the scale { I'm trying to get
away from thinking in scales } ). Once in a while it's neat to pedal
    into the next measure.

| | Like Brian, I dig the 6th tone as a lead off note for a solo...musta
listened to too many sax players honking whole notes. I usually
get there by bending a 5th tone up a whole step.

Can't wait to try some of the other ideas mentioned here!

    regards,
    John K.

and let him blow it away,...

| | That #4 is just a leading tone to the V chord. You're thinking
about modulating from C to G, but then you change your mind, right?

| | yeah,.. or leading down to the four in a blooz mode,...

but that aint why he brought it up...

Hes continuing to remind me of my worst habit when I try to fright
read stuff,..I make mistakes and it is amazing how many of
    these mistakes involve a #4,..

which by the way,.. is Buck's favorite non scale degree,..

Why do you think he got that nick name,,,
