| 1857.1 | just heard about it | RICKS::CALCAGNI |  | Thu Jun 07 1990 17:29 | 10 |
| | I just saw an ad for this amp in a guitar mag; it was the first I'd
    ever heard of it. Looks like yet another 4x10 Tweed Bassman copy
    a la THD (which has it's own note in here somewhere); is there really
    that much market for these things? This one must be better than the
    THD; after all, it's $100 more :-)

    Fender's doing their own re-issue of this amp, which is slightly more
    reasonable (in the $1000 range); I've heard it's a pretty nice copy.

| | I would lean towards the Fender version myslef. THD and Kendricks
    will most likely be here today-gone tomorow.

    Of course, even the Fender version is not a great value ($1000
    for a 45 watt combo?). It's more of a nostalgia trip. Look at
    the Fender re-issued guitars and basses. The price on these is
    as high as a deluxe Strat+, despite the outdated clunky hardware.

    Just my humble opinion !!

| | I played a (Bassman copy) Kendricks something or other and I can live
    w/o the reverb, (since this is to be a copy of a Bassman which had no
    reverb). I can live with that, but the tone was terrible! If you placed
    this amp with a Peavey Classic 50 4x10" next to it and blindfolded the
    guitarist in order to decide which one to buy... I'm pretty sure 9
    out of 10 guitarist would take the Peavey! Needless to say, I wouldn't
    buy one. After a few minutes I mentioned that I had enough of this
    abuse!

    Now I feel a real need to try a Dumble, or a Matchless, but Kendricks
    does NOT get my vote! 45 or 50 watt output that distorts like a
    chainsaw at 4 on the volume knob? Never mind... FWIW, the knobs go
    to 12!  ;^)

    Rock on,

| | Hey Fred, it sure sounds to me like you played a bum amp or something.
    Maybe a tube was on it's way out, who knows? I'm not a proponent of
    Kendricks or anything, but I just find it hard to believe a *working*
    amp gave you chainsaw at 4; Bassmen don't do that, and I'd expect the
    Kendricks to be close enough not to either.

| 1857.6 | I'll stick to my PV-MX/Boogie combination thank you | EARRTH::ABATELLI | Who knew? | Fri Aug 28 1992 13:40 | 7 |
|  |     I dunno Rick, I plugged it in and I wasn't impressed at all. I was
    actually very disappointed. So much so that there was a guy
    playing a Peavey 112 that had a better tone! I'm not knocking PV,
    but I just expect ALOT more from a $1200. amp.

    Fred (who's still looking for a Dumble)
