    	Does anyone know what the standard markup for instuments that
    are traded in? I know it varies form store to store, state to 
    state, but I'm curious if the following pricing is common.
    
    	I recently traded by Squire Bullet bass in on a new bass.
    I got what I felt was a fair trade in. I noticed that my old
    bass on the used rack today for over twice what I got in trade.
    This seemed kind of high priced to me. It's also interesting
    to note that a few years ago, when I bought the Fender, I 
    only paid a few bucks more than the the *used* price. 
    
    	Is this sort of pricing common, or is the store cashing
    in on the Fender name? IMO, the bass I traded was not in
    the greatest of shape.  I never would have guessed that they
    would ask such a price.

	I'd heard that most music stores will give you about half what they intend to get for a trade in. I imagine that there are others here more knowledgeable in this area than I am though. I presume that it depends on the markup on whatever it is that you're buying and the deal you cut on that too. Figure that they will pad the asking price some too, because most places expect negotiation on the price, so they probably don't expect to really get what they have marked on your bass. I find that most music stores will take 15%-20% less than the marked (asking) price for most items, maybe more if you're a regular customer. Greg

	Most delears accepting trade-ins will allow you the current wholesale price, which is roughly half retail price. In my experience, it's almost universal. Bob

	Yup, I agree with both .1 and .2. When I asked about trading my Fender a few years ago folks were offering $150, but now that I've given it to a store on consignment, they're asking $295. Steve

	Re: EMG Nah, I put the old pickguard and pickups in it before I traded it. I did it right there in the store too. The salesman said it wouldn't make any difference as far as trade value goes. It would have been interesting to see if the price was any higher with the EMG.
