| | If the reliability on these are high, it may be worth it for
a long term investment. I would most likely get a Hartke set-up
as a system of all systems, given the technology doesn't change
    much too soon.

| | One potential drawback of these cabs is the weight, something on
the order of 90 lbs per. This may not be a factor for you, but for
me it ruled out any serious consideration. Btw, the guys at Hartke
say the cabs have to be that heavy; the driver magnets alone are
about 12 lbs apiece and the transient response of the drivers is so
fast that it will tear lesser cabs apart.

I was being optimistic in my earlier reply....I just saw the latest
Music Emporium catalog price for a Hartke 410 cab, they want $675.

I doubt you could do any better than $600 for one new, based on
    that.
Have you tried the SWR Goliath (four 10s plus a tweet). This is
supposed to be hot...and about a grand.

| | Should I start lifting weights to get a head start on these things?
Maybe I should hire a full-time roadie. That's what originally made
me get rid of my Carvin years ago. I guess you can't have your
    cake and eat it.
I haven't looked into the SWR's, seems to be just a tad out of
my price range, I'll need to save for two more components.

| | re: the Hartke cabs...

I can understand the need/desire for 4-10"s and more for live playing
but what about playing at reduced volume or non-gigging situations.

Does anyone know if the Kartke 2-10" configuration would support this
kind of playing well? Or are the 2-10"s really only intended to be
a high-freq box for a biamped system or for guitar (instead of bass)?

| | The Hartke 2-10 box is a 4-10 bass cab cut in half. They recommend it
as a high pass cab, but with the same drivers in it, the only thing
that would be a problem is that the cabinet could not be tuned as low
due to the smaller box volume.
BTW, the aforementioned SWR folks make a combo amp called the RedHead
which uses half of the Goliath cab (2 10" and a tweeter) together
with a 250 watt tube/transistor head and it is tuned (they say)
to 27 Hz. They even have a single height rack space built in for
mounting your favorite digital processor. Cool.....oughta be for
    $1500.

| | If you can afford the SWR's then get them, but the sound you can
get from using SWR's you can also get from Hartke's and at about
half the price. I am currently running through a Pierce BP-1 Bass
Pre-Amp into a Rane 3-way crossover. My highs go out to a Carver
100-watt power amp into two Hartke 2x10 cabinets (which, by the
way, are not 4x10 bass cab's cut in half, duh!), my mids go out
to a Carver 200-watt power amp into two Hartke 4x10 cabinets and
my lows go out to another Carver 200-watt power amp into two Hartke
1x15 cabinets. Also in the rack are a Nady 650 wireless, a BBE
sonic maximizer, a dbx 160x and in the very near future a ART SGE
multi effects processor. I realize that the Hartke's are a little
bit heavier than most, but the sound *and* the reliability of these
cabinets is like no other. I've had two of my cab's since they
were called Guild/Hartke Transient Attack Cabinets since about three
years going on four, they've been used, abused, cranked, yanked
and just about everything in between, and I have not had a problem
with them yet. I wouldn't change them for any other cabinet on
    the market, including the SWR's.

| | Does anyone know if Hartke drivers are available seperately, or are they only
sold in Hartke cabs? I coulda sworn I've seen 'em "loose" in mailorder mags,
but can't find that source now.
Thanks in advance,
