I believe this is an early 70's model, with 2 6L6's, and 2 Celestion
12" 25 watt speakers, and vibrato & reverb on one channel and
a plain channel , 2 inputs each.
I play a hollow - body electric (69 VOX Grand Prix)
I ' m currently in a band doin Velvet Underground covers
: Here's my problem :
I can get a nice clean sound and a good distorted sound at low to
medium volumes .....but at loud volumes the sound is very poor.
1. Any suggestions for loud volumes? the V.U. sound?
2. " " " modifications, hot tubing? (I've already
seen the mod note & and recent Guitar Player, no major help)
3. " " " on who to do it at good price/quality work?
I really like the size of the amp, and for the most part it's sound,
but need it to provide me the output for live shows at smaller size
clubs. Please Help!
thanks - Steve

Take it to the Cambridge Music Center (look it up in the phone book)
that's where a friend of mine has all his old Fenders worked on.
Bring your guitar, play it for them and ask them what they think.
Might just need new tubes, about $60-100. A Pro is 40 watts, it
should be plenty loud and real punchy.

When you say the sound at loud volumes is poor, are you experiencing
a muddy quality? I ask this because some models of Fenders have
a real problem when it comes to bass and upper midrange resolution.
It seems that the louder you turn the amp up, the less capable it
is of handling the bass. Like you, I too enjoy the overall qualities
of the Fenders. What I do to remedy such a problem is run more
than one Fender in series. Allow me to explain -
I found an old blackface Bassman and a Fender 2 12 bottom which
gave me the crunch and bass response I was looking for. It lacked
somewhat though in the upper ranges. I coupled that amp with a
blackface Deluxe Reverb (for the high end) and a blackface Vibrolux
Reverb (for the middle). I turn the bass down on the Deluxe and
Vibrolux to about 4 or 5. I keep the bassman bass control on 10.
You can connect patch cords between each amp so that they are running
in series - all together, yet independant. This setup does nicely
for me. You might want to visit a local music store that can
assist you with such a setup to see if this is the kind of sound
you are looking for. Good Luck.
