| | You may want to look at NOVA::COMMUSIC, reviews of the SPX-90 are
in there....the DEP-5 may have been mentioned but I don't remember
    it.

The SPX-90 is a nice machine it does compression, chorus, delay,
reverb....but being a jack of all trades it does none of them that
well...I think the SPX-90B (or II I forget) is about $900.00 (list)

The DEP-5 does more than one thing at a time ie: Chorus and delay.
It's rumored to be better than the 90...they also cost big $$$

Skip it all and buy a Midiverb II, 99 presets, 16 bit archetecture,
15Khz bandwidth, stereo, and rumored to be awesome in sound...I just
ordered one from Profound Sound for $325. also reviewed in commusic.

Another product in the stereo digital signal processing market is
the ART Proverb, the one I heard I liked but it's only 12 bit and
has only 10K bandwidth....Shane at profound said that next to the
midiverb II it was sterile sounding...about $275 if you shop around.

You may wish to check out the Roland GP-8 guitar signal processor.
Distortion, eq, compression, chorus, delay, reverb, some sort of
filter andother overdrive...etc. all simultaniously, programmable
set ups ie: whenI push the footswitch I get chorus, compression
    and overdrive...store something like 128 user set ups...about $800
I think...haven't seen one yet but have heard great things about
    it.

    good luck!

| | Hi Stac, what's the word?

I tried the SPX-90 and I wasn't overly thrilled with it for guitar.
It sounds like it would be great in the studio to use on drums or
vocals, but it doesn't sound very good with a guitar going thru
it (my opinion). If you (or SL) are interested in a multi-effects
processor, I recommend the Lexicon PCM70 or PCM80. They are real
nice units and sound a lot better than the SPX-90.

I haven't heard the DEP-5, but there are notes in COMMUSIC (NOVA::)
    on both of these units.

    good luck.

| | Or... Try out the new Yamaha REX-50. It's got delay, chorus, etc,
*AND* pitch shifters. List for $495. Haven't seen one yet, but Guitar
Player just did a product focus on the unit.

I second the motion for a Roland GP-8. Great toy, but a bit pricey.

I dont think they had the guitar in mind when they designed the
SPX90 or the DEP5. If your looking for a vocal effect both work
nicely , However the DEP5 is a bit more flexable.
The ROLAND GP-8 is a great guitar effects processor , but one may
want to consider ROLANDS guitar synths !!
