| 367.1 | New album due out yesterday! | TARKIN::TTESTA | Tommy B. Goode, but wants to get better! | Thu Oct 15 1987 09:11 | 5 |
| | Haven't you heard? He's coming out with a new album due out
yesterday, but it has been delayed 2 weeks. WAAF has been playing
the single from it and it was #2 on the "Top 5 at 5". Pretty good
song, though it's not the one George wanted for a single.

| | it's called "(I've got my mind) Set On You" or something like that.
If you understand the difference between "musical pudding" and "musical
whipped cream", this tune definitely approaches whipped cream.
Light, airy, not much taste or substance. I'm sure it will sell
    millions. BTW, its GRETSCH.

| 367.3 | But, its a good business move... | TARKIN::TTESTA | Tommy B. Goode...like to B. Better! | Fri Oct 16 1987 12:40 | 25 |
| | The first time I heard it, I said "Very commercial sounding",
but I still like the song. Remember, this single was picked by the
RECORD EXEC for a single. I Believe that an album should not be
judged by a single but for the contents of the album as a whole.
(And by the way, singles *USED* to have a B side TOO!)
I think that Warner is proceeding cautiously, and opting for
commercial success. They have delayed release for 2 weeks, & I
    think I know why.
    1) Bruce Springsteen is riding high on the crest of his new album.
They are letting the "Brand new release"" effect wear off.
    2) There are 2 cover stories out so far...I believe there will be
    a third.
    3) They are giving this single a chance to "test the waters", I
believe that a second single will be released if this one fades
too fast, or just to get twice the amount of airplay.
    4) 2 weeks closer to Christmas means bigger sales.

I personally want to hear the other songs that were described in
the article. This one is geared towards the younger, "popish"
consumer, and I believe the others will be a varied assortment
of style, with something for everyone.

    	Words from the Beatle homeland.

He has recorded the album with the usual line-up of
mega session players,Ringo,Dave Edmonds etc. However it
is a joint venture with Jeff Lynne of E.L.O. fame. The
album sounds as if it has all the usual hallmarks of
Lynne's work and the combination of these talents should
be good. John Lennon was reputed to have said that if the
Beatles were around today they would sound like E.L.O..
On a radio interview over here in Britain he has also
suggested setting up a band with Lynne for touring. I have
always been a big fan of Lynne and would like to see such
    an interesting idea come off.

    P.S.
Did anyone in the states see the Carl Perkins
25th anniversary show. It was a studio concert recorded
in Britain. Playing along with him was Harrison, Clapton etc.
Perkins was moved to tears with the warmth of the reception
he received from the British legends and audience.

According to what one record store was told here, his album was
delayed for a last minute re-mix.
I personally think it was to wait until the Beatles CD's had sold
