| If you need REAL Fender pickups, good luck...
Seymour Duncan makes copies of the old Fender pickups for guitars
as well as bass...he even has pickups for the old single-coil
Tele-style Precision basses.
Di Marzio also used to make "vintage" copies.
You might check a Fender dealer and see if the factory will sell
the pickups they use in the Vintage series basses.

| If you're looking for a vintage type sound, you might not find that
sound in the new fender p/u's. I quess it boils down to what you
are really looking for in tone and overall sound. Seymour Duncan
has been making pick-up's with every possible sound. If you write
to them,(find the address in any guitar mag.), and tell them what
tpye of sound you're looking for and what guitar you have, they'll
put something together for you.
Just a thought.

| Fred,you're right,I'm looking for the 'meaty' vintage sound that
the old fenders have. And the p/u's I have are about 4 trs. old
and just don't have the balls I'm looking for...
I checked out the Seymour Duncan active EQ pu's and they sound really
well,but I don't like the idea of having a battery powered sound...
Thanks for the info... I'll just have to search around for guitar
repairmen that may have some old pick-ups in a shoe box somewhere...

Whoa!!!!
There are a lot more types of Duncan bass pickups than just the
active EQ ones.....get his catalog!!!!!!
He sells pickups which are designed to be EXACT sonic AND visual
replicas of the old ones in addition to a wide range of hot-rodded
ones....as -2 mentions, Duncan also can custom wind pickups for
you.

It's true! the SD p/u's are pretty original sounding but built
better than fenders. i've got two on my strat (1 Hot, 1 Custom)
and 1 on P Bass (Hot Jazz bass - bridge position). they're great
p/u's! if you go to McDuff's in Shrewsberry (Rt 9) next to Spags,
you can keep exchanging the various types until you find the one
that sounds good to you. He'll give you about 10 days, if you
don't like that model, de-solder it, git another..!

| ANY duncan dealer should allow you to replace the pickups until
you get the right one for you....it's Duncan's guarantee...you have
30 days under the duncan warantee to exchange the pickup for one
of equal of greater (paying the difference of course) value.
