|  |     Gidday Phil,

    I think the file that you copied (ZOO.EXE) was a VMS version of zoo.
    The file that you want is probably :

    EOT::AMIGA:[AMIGA.ZOO.ZOO200]Zoo200.ARC

    Shaun - Brisbane.Oz.

|  |     Cheers Shaun.

    However its CATCH22 here, if I copy the file you identified would'nt I
    then need ARC on my AMIGA ?, or do I UNARC on the VAX then transfer
    the.EXE image down to the AMIGA ?.

    Copied VLTjr over the net last night, as a TE its the best I've tried,
    have yet to try VLTjr for file transfer using xprzmodem. Hanging on to
    AZCOMM just in case.

    Cheers
    Phil

| | Yes, you would need ARC on the amiga or maybe you could get by if you de-arc
it on VMS and then transferred the resulting executable down to the Amiga.
I assume if you do a binary transfer you may get around it, esp. if you are
using the ZMODEM protocol.

| 4993.5 | And it Works !!!! | NZOMIS::SWALES |  | Sun Aug 25 1991 06:57 | 12 |
| | Chhers Mike, I deARCed it on the VAX and used VLTjr/XPRZMODEM to
    transfer down to the AMIGA. The transfer at 2400 bauds into RAM: only
    took 3 mins 25 secs. After weeks of mucking around with xmodem/Kermit
    this is a breeze and its quick. Now got LHarc, and Zoo as well. Copied
    Missile Command, brings back youthfull memories.

    Mike and Shaun (OZ) besides EOT:: and CRISTA:: do you know of any other
    nodes with AMIGA stuff. Appreciate the help guys, no ill feelings after
    the Bledisloe Cup yesterday......

| 4993.6 | Try these .... | GIDDAY::MORAN |  | Sun Aug 25 1991 07:43 | 27 |
| | Footbal scores don't worry me - it's only when there are more amiga's
    in NZ than OZ is when I get worried :-)

    Other nodes from the top of my head ...

    Mainly the ones that I can think of :

    EOT::AMIGA:[UPLOAD] and EOT::AMIGA:[AMIGA...]
    CRISTA::AMIGA:[] (I think!)
    DFS::AMIGA:[]
    CGOU01::AMIGA:[000000]

    Anyone I've left out ???

    I don't know about about Mike but I've always wanted to keep a local
    source of amiga files on easynet but Hard drive space on our 3600 and
    the fact that we only have a 9600 baud DECNET link to the rest of the
    world makes it prohibitive in BrisBane. Any other Amiga fanatics living
    in SPR with spares systems and RA81 ready to dedicate to a better life?

    By the way - you could of also got out of your ARC,ZOO,LHARC problem by
    copying the ARC that is self extracting. I think that one's on EOT::
    also.

    Shaun.

| 4993.7 | What a hobby !!!!!! | NZOMIS::SWALES |  | Sun Aug 25 1991 08:24 | 23 |
| | Shaun, I connect in via local 2400 baud from home into the DECnet LAN
    at the Wellington branch, and via Wellington and TRANSLAN's to the Head
    Office MIS Cluster 2 x 6320 ? in Auckland.

    Disc space may seem a problem, but I think a greater problem would be
    keeping it updated with all the PD software that does get uploaded in
    the states. However we could have a local (SPR) node for local PD
    stuff. I'll have a word with my friendly Pre-Sales Group in Wellington,
    each of them seems to have a few thousands of dollars of hardware on
    their desks.

    Been looking in EOT::amiga:[amiga.music] and there seems to be some
    good music around, problem is there are few README notes to point to
    the appropriate SOUNDplayer.

    I hit this problem with other SW, you spend 30/60 mins downloading and
    converting, and setting up discs, only for the SW to prompt for some
    other piece of SW you do'nt have. Wasted 50 mins tonight only to be
    prompted for DPAINT III. Still some would say sitting at a terminal on a
    Sunday evening is a waste of time. Hackers unite !!!!!!

    Cheers
    Phil

| 4993.8 | The world is available!! | GIDDAY::MORAN |  | Sun Aug 25 1991 22:42 | 18 |
| | Keeping up with the latest software is not a problem.

    I have a little DCL script file that runs every morning at 8:00, does a
    directory of EOT::AMIGA:[UPLOAD] and mails me the difference from
    yesterday's. This way I know what the latest stuff is.

    When you've been colecting PD software for a while like me you end up
    with about 300 disks of it at home (and that's not including fish
    disks!!!) so you have the other libraries/utilities somewhere around
    the place. eg. Music modules playes - if you want some I've got about 4
    or 5 different one's - I find Ultraplayer to be the best - Intuitracker
    crashes too much.

    If there's any stuff that you need just send me EMAIL to RIPPER::MORAN
    and I'll be glad to help.

    Shaun.

| 4993.9 | Quicker way | NOTIBM::MCGHIE | Thank Heaven for small Murphys ! | Mon Aug 26 1991 22:12 | 11 |
| | I find a quicker way to get something home from the net is to put it on a
PC format 3.5" disk using PCDISK on a VS3100 and then take it off at the
other end using MSH or CROSSDOS etc.
Much higher bandwidth than 2400 baud.
I thought about a PD file repository for downunder but really there is only
a very small number of us in SPR.

	How do you instruct PCDISK to write on a 720 KB floppy?
	When I tried it insists to tell me my disk was write protect!

|  | Ah yes.
I have found that when I tried writing a 720kb floppy on a scsi RX23, i.e.
DKAn00: I had a write lock problem. Not sure if it is a 'feature' of the
SCSI floppy or a hardware problem with the VS I was using. Certainly I've
managed it on VS3100s with the floppy seen as DUAn.

| 4993.12 | what density disk are you using? | SALEM::LEIMBERGER |  | Wed Aug 28 1991 05:40 | 10 |
| | I have been using 720K disks formatted with Diskmaster on a regular
    basis never a problem. If however you are taking HD disks such as
    we use here at work home, and formatting them down to 720k you may
    run into problems. When you do this you have to cover the HD indicator
    or the DecStations(I have a 325) get confused. It seems they use a
    mechanical method of determining what density disk is inserted. I
    can't remember if I have tried to format a DD disk on the decstation
    to 720k. I keep a supply of DD 720k disk fromatted at home around for
    use in data transfer.
