    I was given a Summagraphics MM1201 Tablet a couple of weeks back and I
    went looking for a driver. I read all of the notes and thought
    "things look a little bleak".
    
    Then, in the latest batch of Fish uploads I found "OPTMOUSE" which is
    designed to interface a (truly) optical mouse to the machine. The docs
    sugest that this could be the basis for a...wait for it....DIGITISING
    TABLET DRIVER.
    
    I fired this up, not expecting a lot. and got exactly what I expected.
    
    However, running XOPER and looking at serial.device we find that the
    MM1201 is communicating. I.e. pushing the buttons on the summagraphics
    cursor causes character transmissions.
    
    My knowledge of C is, to say the least, rudimentary. It did occur to me
    that the source could be modified to drive this tablet.
    
    Ideally I'd like to think that there is someone really knowledgable in
    C who could adapt this code or, alternatively, do any of you folks have
    access to the ascii codes Generated by the tablet for movement and
    buttons etc.

	Thanks for the info. However, I'll keep that as a last resort. Being short on $$$ and wanting to see a PD driver available, I would like to hang in for a while and see what we can do. A tablet isn't much different from the optical mouse as described in that they both generate ascii characters for button clicks and x/y movement. If I can find out what these codes are, I'll hack the OPTMOUSE driver and see what eventuates. cheers, Glenn

	You're right, the codes are quite simple and are easy to handle. I used to work for a CMP into CAD/CAM and CIM, and we supported the MM series. I'm sure that if you contact Summagraphics you can get a copy of the codes for little, if any expense; the entire "manual" is quite small. Bob

	Well........Stan Gifford and I have written a working driver for the Summagraphics MM1201. We should be able to upload it in about a week. So far I've tested it with Deluxe paint III and Draw 2000 with no problems. Watch this space. Glenn

	I've uploaded "SUMPAD.lzh" to tape::. This is a background driver for the Summagraphics MM1201 tablet. apologies for the scanty documentation.... Note that this is a TEST version. Please feedback to either Stan Gifford on PEEVAX::GIFFORD or myself. Stan did the programming and I had most (some?) of the bright ideas. OH yeah - please dont distribute outside Digital.
