    Question; 
    		A person I know recently bought 2 500's, he was told that
     they contained the Fatter Agnus's, because of warranty concerns he
    asked his Authorized Commodore Dealer (the same place that he bought
    the A500's from) if they could cut the proper traces to enable the 
    Fatter Agnus, they said they could for $60  but it would void his 
    Commodore waranty.
    
    	Is this correct? Does Commodore include the enabling of the fatter
    Agnus by Authorized Commodore Dealers as a void of warranty?

	In talking with my dealer (System Eyes) cutting the traces on the five hundred will void the warrenty. There was also a blurb on this in the latest Amazing Computing(bug bytes column I think). I also talked to the repairman who had just returned from a CBM training seminar, and he said that he was told the same thing. He also stated that he was informed that one of the reasons was attributted to miner differences in the timing between the 500, and 2000 busses. bill

	Beware of hardware device incompatibilities if you enable the 1meg Agnus. I did it and had to disable the 1meg addressing capability in order to use a hard drive AND accelerator on the A500. mark

	SET MODE/CYNIC Are there really significant timing differences or has marketing finally found a way to push people up to the A2x00 when they want to "do graphics"? A500 =1/2meg chip A2x00 =1 meg chip A3000 =2 meg chip If you buy an A2000, then Commodore gets the money you pay for bigger power supply and expansion capabilities. If you expand an A500, quite often 3rd party HW places get the call (the C= A590 doesn't have an assured place in the marketplace). If they are gearing up to drop the price of the A500 even further, they need to differentiate the various models. Dave

	Re .0: Yes, I talked to 'my friendly dealer' here in Atlanta and he told me the same thing. There's more though. Even after your warenty expires, if you have the trace cut and the board breaks for any reason, the repairs are likely to cost you more. Put simply, most A500 repairs are done by doing a mother board swap. If the trace is cut, Commodore will not accept the old board for trade in on the replacement board. Since the dealer is not going to get a trade in on the board, he's going to have to charge you the full price on it or go into component trouble shooting mode. Either way, it's going to cost you money.
