Actually.... you could use a multisynch today. Be sure to get one that
scans video rates and understands interlace! I have a Mitsubishi DiamondScan
AUM-1381 and am very pleased with it. I have *very* good reason to believe
it will work very well with the ECS (Enhanced Chip Set).
The only caution I would offer is if you get your cable from Redmond Cable
you have it made shorter than the standard 6 feet. The cable is not shielded
coax and I have seen some problems with color purity with that cable. This
does not seem to happen with all these cables, and I do not know how to
distinguish between them other than by trying them. I have one that is
special coax and works wonderfully, but it is not generally available.

When you mention 'color purity', do you mean "white isn't white, and
blue isn't quite blue"? I have a DiamondScan and a cable from Redmond,
and my colors seem fine. The only thing I notice is that the monitor
could be brighter. If I leave the brightness in the "depressed" mid
region, it isn't nearly bright enough. I have to turn the brightness
and the contrast all the way up to get a good display under florescent
lights.
Is this true of other DiamondScans, or might I need an adjustment?

All DiamondScan seem to be a little dim. I also turn up the
    brightness and contrast.

What I ment was there may be a "color fringe" at places where there is a
transition to white from dark (dark blue, black, etc). In the ones I have
seen the fringe is always magenta.
As I said, it does not happen with all cables.

I see no problems upgrading your system to ECS level, however I
don't see you purchase an ECS set (Denise) _and_ the neccessary
    2.0 Workbench any time soon.
As mentioned, get an Multisync that can scan from ~15kHz to ~ 35kHz
and will display ???by ~600 pixels. While you can get the 1280(x-Axis)
Super-Hires mode, I don't see you use it too much in "real"
applications, so you might opt for a monitor with just ~800 horizontal
    resolution.
