    I bought a cheap keyboard extension cable, it worked fine except
    that the first character typed after a reboot never showed
    up. That problem matched the one CBM ran into when they changed
    keyboard vendors - the CBM fix for that was to cut off some capacitors
    on the A2000 motherboard. I never tried that, didn't really need
    an extended keyboard at the time, was just curious if it would work,
    and found the cable at a Computer Fleamarket real cheap.

    It might be better to get a shielded cable, don't know if the problem
    was due to that.

I picked one up at Horizon Sales in Framingham, MA (ok ok, I was there buying
FAX boards for a friends PC's - but not to digress!)
6 foot "IBM" keyboard extender cable for $5.00. I haven't tried it out
yet since I need to clear things up to get Amy under the table (besides, I was
a bit under myself last night :-) :-) )

| | re .4 I just purchased a mouse cable extension to use with my Easyl.
    I haven't tried it yet. However I noticed thst System Eyes uses
    a fairly long cable on one of their 2000's joystick port. They put it
     on so that they could hook up the digidroid. Both the digidroid,and
     the Joystick seem to work fine. I use a splitter cable on my second
    joystick port. As for the mouseport I haven't tried any yet. It
    is almost a necessity for the splitter cable because I don't enjoy
    plugging anything into the front of the 2000.

| 3523.6 | no problem ! | MAN02::KRAUSS |  | Mon Feb 26 1990 08:04 | 11 |
|  |     re .3:

    I'm using a 25 pin 4meter 'terminal'cable.
    I put my 2000 into a cupboard about 3 m off my desk, because it was to
    loud. Only the monitor, the keyboard and the mouse are on the desk.
    I made all my cables on my own and they're working all fine, even the
    unshielded ones.

    regards

| 3523.7 | Have many extenders. Work fine | CAM::ARENDT | Harry Arendt CAM:: | Mon Feb 26 1990 10:01 | 19 |
|  |
    I have almost every thing extended and my amiga on the floor to
    the side. I don't do much disk swapping (2 floppies and a hard
    disk) so proximaty to the machine is not a problem. Besides I hate
    the fan blowing at me through the front gaps. Fortunatly the
    amiga is IBM PC and Atari game compatable for much of the wiring.
    I have the following extension cables.

    (2) 6 foot curly IBM PC Compatable keyboard cables
    (2) 6 Foot Radio Shack 9 pin joystick cables (Never fuss with amiga
        conections at machine, what a pain that was.)
    (1) 6 foot parallel cable for printer
    (1) 6 foot serial cable for modem
    (1) 4 foot monitor extension cable

    Everything works fine. Nothing is AMIGA only. My hat is off to
    standardized cables.

    That's strange, My system takes air from the front of the machine and
    exhausts it out the rear.

| 3523.9 | Mouse Master? | HPSCAD::DMCARR | Asleep at the mouse | Mon Feb 26 1990 11:50 | 19 |
|  |
    While we're on the subject of cable extenders, etc., is anyone else out
    there using a Mouse Master? I've got one for my 500 since getting to
    the ports at the rear of the machine is a real pain, especially when
    trying to unplug the mouse to insert a joystick for 2 player games (or
    when having to swap my Epyx 500XJ for my other joystick for my left-handed
    daughter).
    The other night I booted up, went to double-click on the WB icon, and
    nothing (right button worked fine, left was inoperative). Plugged the
    mouse directly into the 500 and all was ok. Plugged the Mouse Master
    back in and all seems ok, though I have noticed on one occasion since
    then that the joystick wouldn't operate in the left/right directions.
    Reinserted it and it cleared up.
    Fortunately the Mouse Master's still under warranty. Was wondering if
    anyone else is using one that's exhibited similar behavior.

| 3523.10 | Mouse Master & 3-but | SALEM::LEIMBERGER |  | Tue Feb 27 1990 03:49 | 9 |
|  |     I considered a Mouse Master,but a friend informed me that 3-but
    would not work on his 2000 with a mouse master. While this is not
    a big issue,it made me wonder how the Mouse master passes data.
    If it were a straight through you would expect a three button
    mouse would be able to function.Of course I don't know if it is
    a problem with the hardware,or 3-but.However logic points toward
    thr Mouse Master not supporting three button mice. Anyone out there
    that can confirn this?

| 3523.11 | home made solution? | STAR::ROBINSON |  | Tue Feb 27 1990 10:27 | 10 |
| | FWIW, The december issue of Compute's Amiga resource has an article
     describing how to build a box to switch between two joystick port
     devices. It passes all of the wires in the port and thus claims
     to work with any mouse, joystick etc. I priced the parts,
     all but one available at Radio Shack, and the parts cost was
     about $20. Since MOuse master is availabe for about $29 mail order
     I figured it was not worth the effort, but if you need full joystick
     port support, this may be a solution. The article is short and
     clearly written, with part numbers for the radio shack items.
