I can't answer the rest, but for sound, just use the RCA Audio
Out jacks on the back of the Amiga. Feed them into any amp with
speakers...and voila....stereo sound.
My Amiga 1000 at home is fed into a mini-boom box. My Amiga 2000
at work is fed into two Fostex amplified speakers.
Both work great.

The Apple IIGS has the same bandwidth RGB out as the Amiga, which is
15.75 KHz horizontal refresh and 60 Hz verticle refresh, so it should
work just fine. The only question in my mind is whether or not the
Apple monitor could handle the Amiga's interlace modes, which the GS
doesn't support. Perhaps Redmond could answer the question.
As to models, the A500 and A2000 are both 68000 based, but the A2500 is
68020 based, and is 4-5x faster than the other models. However, all
Amigas are pretty fast right out of the box, and frankly, (other than
disk directory access) blow the GS off the face of the earth in overall
performance. All Amiga models can easily support the addition of a
faster 68020 processor as an upgrade path, so you're not dead-ended in
terms of performance with the base models.

| Don't know if it's rlevant, but I recently saw an advert for a utility
which allowed you to use your Amiga to run Apple S/W. You could
even buy the Apple ROMs from the same source, for fitting to the
Amiga. If you're seriously interested in this, I'll dig out the
advert.

| the AMax has been discussed in another note.I am planning on adding
an apple floppy to my system,and Mac2Dos software.This will give
you mac file compatability,which is all I want,but of course I own
no mac software,so AMax does't appeal to me.It would be good for
Mac owners that wish to upgrade to an amiga however.

I paid for it with my own money. I got tired of waiting for DEC
to purchase equipment for our group (most of us still use
DECmates for everything, ugh! We even have a bunch of Pro 350s
sitting around collecting dust.) I am using a Sony 19" RGB
monitor that was collecting dust here as well.

Cheer up... as a principle engineer who does real work for a living, I
get to watch secretarys and managers use $40,000 color VaxStations to
read mail while I'm stuck with a VT220. I've been told for three years
in a row now that there was just no money to buy a workstation for my
own mechanical design work. There ain't no justice.
I've made a sacred vow that if I ever have the money, I'll bring an
A2500 to work and run X-Windows. And God help anyone who touches it!

| Well I got some answers when I asked my questions so now I owe a report
on the results.
I made a homemade cable and for the last 4-5 months the monitor has
worked fine with all the software I have thrown at it. There is still
some question in my mind as to interlaced modes but all is well so far.
