Al,
The lowest I've seen for a 500 is $549. (512k only) This is a local
(Chicago) place that advertises nationaly with the name Computer
Showcase or something similar. If you need the number, try looking
in Computer Shopper or let me know. The place is in Barrington,

Part one of .0 asked about TV.
In Australia (PAL TV) a simple cable connection gives you a composite
B/W image on a monitor. To use a TV with colour, you need to buy
the modulator and plug it into Amy. (cost = $60 in Aus, $30? in
USA). Cheapest way to go to get the feel of an Amiga, is to buy
the base 500 and the modulator and some books. Later if you still
like it, add extra floppy drive, more memory and RGB monitor, probably
in that order. The monitor is the problem, as I guess it's the same
in USA as here. The "standard" one really has not enough resolution
and to get really serious and to prevent eye-pain, it really is
ideal to spend heaps on the monitor, it will pay off in image quality.
There have been lots of notes here about this, but a good multi-sync
monitor is the way to go, this will take advantage of future
developments in the video department of the Amiga range, plus it
will readily work with any other computer you may wish to play with.

re: .0
The A500 and A2000 have a monochrome composite video RCA jack and also
RGB output. The A1000 has color composite video RCA jack and also
RGB. That composite can be connected to a TV with a RF modulator
or by going thru the video in of a VCR (The VCR does the RF modulating).
So... to get color video from an A500 on a TV takes some more tricks.
Cltd sell a thing called the C-View that converts the RGB output
to color composite. A genlock will also do that for you.
