1431.0. "DOSKWIK...anyone interested?" by VTHRAX::KIP (Explain the Universe and give 3 examples.) Fri May 20 1988 15:20
    For those of us not fortunate enough to have a hard disk (yet! :-),
    there's a pair of programs to make booting up your Amiga a little
    faster. They are "ReadKwik" and "RiteKwik", packaged as "DOSKWIK.ARC".
    What they'll do is copy or restore of all the files on a device
    (recursively including all of the subdirectories and their files) to
    drive 0 or 1 without using AmigaDOS disk format; this makes it a much
    faster copy.

    Here's how I've been using them:

    First, built a set of files and subdirectories in RAM: for all stuff
    normally called in "startup-sequence". Created a modified version of
    startup-sequence in RAM:s. Then did a "ritekwik ram: 1" which copied
    all of ram: to df1: (note, can't use this diskette for anything else,
    non-DOS format). Then, in original startup-sequence, use "readkwik 1
    ram:" (restores files from df1: to RAM:) and call the startup-sequence
    in RAM:.

    If you invoke ReadKwik and you don't have the right diskette
    inserted, you get a cancel requestor. After cancelling, you can
    check to see if one of your files is in RAM: (e.g. if EXISTS
    RAM:myfile) in your original on-disk startup-sequence, and continue
    with your normal startup if ReadKwik didn't work.

    This uses up a disk but if you have a long startup-sequence it can
    really save a lot of time.

    If anyone's interested, I'll upload.

|  |     Uploaded.  Here's where it is:

    	VTHRAX::AMIGA$PUBLIC:DOSKWIK.ARC

    The arc file contains "Readkwik" and "Ritekwik". There are no docs
    (at least I haven't seen them), but both programs will output
    directions if you invoke either of them with no arguments.
