| | How large is the file that you downloaded? There is a PD patch
that modifies Transformer to allow operation under AmigaDOS V1.2
with extended memory. That patch may be called Trans1.2 or some
    such.

Commodore has sent mixed signals regarding Transformer. I've heard
it's still being refined, and will be re-released (for a small fee).

I've also heard that the company that wrote Transformer got sick
of negotiating with CBM and set up shop under the name Avante-Garde
Software. They then ported the most refined version of the emulator
to the Atari ST, where it has received rave reviews, even though
the speed is around 50% of a 4.77 MHz 8088.

| | It's not a patch, as I don't have 1.1 As I said, there are 3 different
pieces of software in it, setatprefs and 2 different versions of
    transformer (I think)
It was around 80K arc'ed. The name avante-gard does sound familiar,
though. I'll have to look at it again when I get home.

| | Well, I looked at it again. It comes up "Copyright 1984,1985,1986
Simile Research" There are 2 programs that seem to be the same.
One is called "AT1" and the other is "Transformer". As soon as
I get msdos onto the 3.5" floppies (sometime this weekend) I'll
check it out and see if it works

| | Well, I'll kermit it up tonight sometime. If it turns out that
it is NOT pd, I'll remove it and you guys are on your honor to delete
    it.

    Look for it in crvax1::dua4:[andrews.amiga]transformer12.arc
(but probably not until tommorrow morning)

| | Some Transformer 1.2 use notes:

o Indeed this software does run on V1.2 Workbench. All you need
to do is run SetATprefs and set DF0: to Drive A: and DF1: to
Drive B:. Save the changes and run Transformer.

o ASDG-RAM still function with Transformer. Just do a warm reboot
when you wish to exit back to AmigaDOS.

o SPEEDY3 does speed up text display considerably. The old version
released about a year ago seems to work just fine.

o PROCOMM 2.4 runs flawlessly. I tried doing some Kermit transfers,
and succeeded. Speed seems to be pretty close to terminal
emulators running on AmigaDOS (anyone know why?).

o MS-DOS V3.2 runs without a hitch. You should be able to use the
os supplied with any of the pc-compatible laptops.

o NOTE: I did all this on the internal 3.5" and external 3.5" drives.
       No 5 1/4" drive!

o For some strange and as yet unknown reason I cannot make a flawless
diskcopy of the Transformer disk. I find that I must first format
a new disk and then deARC the ARC'ed Transformer files.

Reference the attached - would anyone that has got this latest and
official Commodore release of version 1.2 of Transformer, or has
asked their dealer about what features it has to offer, care to
       enlighten the general public.

I did call my dealer and he said "Transformer upgrade?!? Huh?"
(Dan Schein must have prompted him). They are contacting the
Commodore rep., but GOD knows when I will either get an answer or
when they will actually have the upgrade available in the store.

       Thanks in advance.

Upgrade cards were not mailed out like they were for TextCraft. Remember
that TextCraft Plus was a $35.00 upgrade. Transformer is *FREE* - big
  difference there :-)

To get your Transformer disk upgraded, just take the disk to your dealer.
Your dealer will then copy the new V1.2 Transformer over your original
transformer disk. (Original means - CBM labeled version, not the copy
you made from a guy down the street or dealer!)

If your dealer says "Transformer upgrade?!? Huh?" - Then tell him/her
to call their regional rep. for all the details....

  Easy huh? You bet!

What? You deal mail order with VWXYZ - well then I guess you just found
out why your local dealer charges just a bit more for the same thing :-)

  Well its your money :-)

| 764.9 | TRANSFORMER AVAILABILITY? | VERELL::BOAEN |  | Sun Nov 24 1991 00:46 | 16 |
| | Is Transformer PD and available somewhere? I tried:
crvax1::dua4:[andrews.amiga]transformer12.arc
and the node seems to have evaporated.
Also, could not contact:  DDMAIL::ANDREWS
	I found
	PSTRANSFORMER.SH1;1
	PSTRANSFORMER.SH2;1
on EOT, but not Transformer.
If not PD, anyone know what it might cost? I haven't
seen it on a dealer's shelf, and was under the impression it
was provided only with A1000s.

| | Try using IBeM instead, it is MUCH better. My account on crvax1 was
gone a long time ago, I forgot all about it...

IBEM is on EOT some where...
