Does anyone know anything about getting a flat-rate phone service?
I heard that they exist, and would definitely like to get on one
(My phone bills are rather large at times).

I've got a $13.50 flat rate from Pacific NW Bell (less
any special services) that allows me unlimited local calls
for unlimited times (ie. the real benefit!). Of course
I also need Sprint or some other long distance carrier
as BOCs no longer offer this.
Great deal if you dial up from home in any quantity...

| 579.2 | Flat-rate LD not so hot | JON::SANTIAGO | DDT: the ONLY programming language! | Sat Jul 04 1987 22:01 | 12 |
Hmmm I think he means flat-rate long distance. If so, Consumer
Reports did a number on them recently - most of these services
offer "unlimited LD calling for ~$100/mo", but as it turns out
they have maybe one leased line which is only available during
certain hours (3AM thru 3:04 AM) and at neap tides. So it turns
out to be not so hot a deal. If you're really interested I can
try and dig up the issue I saw it in.
If you mean flat local, NE telephone offers it for $11.50/month,
more or less (just got my phone installed). Definitely a bargain
if you call a lot of PADs, or use the phone for (huh?) voice
communications in the local area a lot. Or have teenaged daughters.
