426.0. "The New DigiView" by HYSTER::DEARBORN (Trouvez Mieux) Tue Mar 31 1987 13:10
I finally got my copy yesterday. I sent my money to NewTek several
months ago.
The new DigiView is vastly improved, with several new functions.
You will need 1.5megs of memory if you want to use it all though.
The hi-res color function requires that much. I only have 1meg
so I only have B+W Hi-res, and color in all other resolutions.
There are a lot of new image manipulation options. The HAM 4096
color images are much better than before. You can also digitaize
half or 1/4 size images. This allows you to create images that
take up less room on disk...but of course they take up less room
on the screen too.
If you store files as RGB component files, make sure you have a
lot of disk room. A hi-res RGB file is almost 800K!
There are three different scanning speeds now. The slowest one
gives the best result. It takes 20 seconds for each color pass.
The fastest speed is 5 seconds. Using it decreases the quality,
but is good for capturing 'live' sources that may not sit still
for long.
I haven't had much experience with the new DigiView yet, but it
is much better than the old version.
One last thing: I followed their directions for backing up the
disk...and found that the copy acted very strange, as if there was
a key disk protection scheme...or something. I made a new backup
with Marauder II and this eliminated the problem.
