| 94.1 | should be straightforward | DSSDEV::SAUTER | John Sauter | Fri Sep 05 1986 12:58 | 7 |
| | Last I heard, the LA75 was also going to be compatible with the
    LA50. If that is true, then it shouldn't be hard to write a driver
    for it, given Kickstart 1.2. Last I heard Kickstart 1.2 wasn't
    due out until November. However, generally a product has to be
    at least a year old before it becomes available on Employee Discount,
    so needing Kickstart 1.2 may not be a problem.

| | You beat me to this one, Art. I, too, noticed that. I wouldn't
    be worried about the printer driver from what I have heard about
    WB 1.2. I did call Employee Purchase to find out the scoop. (The
    Sales Update didn't even have prices yet) The person I talked to
    said that he expected it to be available in a six month timeframe
    (all things subject to change without notice, of course.) And, here's
    a neat item (if true), he expected the price to be about what the
    LA50 is now. With all of the extras the LA75 has to offer that
    is hard to pass up.

    P.S. I am currently writing this from my Amiga at home using Dave
    Wecker's VT100 emulator. It's really is a great program. Congrats
    to Dave and all who worked on it.

| 94.3 | PRICING | KAOM03::GOSLING |  | Mon Sep 08 1986 08:54 | 7 |
| | On page 106 of the Sales Update, the price is quoted at $695 and
         with discount, this certainly is attractive. I'm not sure I can
         wait 6 months though! The lack of graphics with the LA50 and
         inability to have a slave printer during a terminal session is
         driving me crazy!! :-(

| 94.4 | LA50 has graphics | DSSDEV::SAUTER | John Sauter | Mon Sep 08 1986 16:15 | 4 |
| | The LA50 has Sixel graphics -- I coded the VAX GKS driver for it.
    Does the LA75 have more and/or better graphics? (I haven't seen
    the text of the announcement.)

|  |          John, I wouldn't know a sixel from a cigar, but the comparison
         of the print density will likely answer your question:

| 94.6 | draft mode speed? | NOVA::RAVAN |  | Fri Nov 07 1986 16:32 | 9 |
| | How fast is the LA75 in draft mode? I have an LA100 at home
    that does draft mode at 240 cps. Since I mostly use the printer
    to get a hard copy of program listings, that's what I want most
    in a printer. Doing great graphics and LQ mode would be nice
    additions, but I personally wouldn't trade the LA100 in for an
    LA75 unless the 75 could do draft mode at the same speed or greater.
    Personal preference.

| 94.8 | LA75P CABLING QUESTION | POLAR::GOSLING | KANATA MFG I.S. | Mon Sep 21 1987 11:25 | 13 |
|  |
       Does anyone have the parallel version of the LA75 (LA75P -
       announced as available a month or so ago in Sales Update)
       connected to their AMIGA?

       If so (or if not and someone cares to speculate) is there any
       reason to believe that the cable I am using to connect to a Star
       NX(or is it L??)-10 wouldn't be plug compatible with the LA75P?

       Thanks

       Art

| 94.9 | I Hope It Works !! | CELSST::FISHER | John Fisher @NCO | DTN 367-4453 | Wed Oct 21 1987 07:07 | 12 |
|  |     Art,

    I have an LA75P on order with the assumption that the cable is
    identical to my previous Gemini-10X. Check with any field service
    folks that you might know to see if the lines are all the same.
    But I would bet (and did) that they are the same. If not, it is
    not too difficult to wire up a cable.

    P.S. Send Mail to CELSST::FISHER in a couple of months if you are
    still wondering. I should have it up and running by then.

       John, thanks for your response. I have been away for a week or
       two and as a result hadn't the opportunity to update this note.

       I did receive the LA75P, and the parallel cable I had connected to
       my Star (and PJ1080) printer worked with no problem at all (held
       my breath though when I turned everything on).

       The printer works great with the LA50 driver. In order to print
       via PAR: I had to reset (ie: enable them) all the set-up menu
       items associated with "Auto LF" and "Auto CR", otherwise stuff
       just kept on wrapping....

| | Sorry, but I am not sure what the price is. The Employee Purchase
    folks will be happy to help. They have been very responsive to my
    requests for information. I will be using my printer for work,
    so the company is picking up the tab...
