1523.0. "Record too large in logfile" by SWETSC::WESTERBACK (Panta rei) Thu Apr 17 1997 07:51
It's very annoying to try to read logfiles from archive jobs
run in batch... Record get too large, if you try to edit:

    Error reading from input file
    File name:SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGR]PCM_ARCHIVE.LOG;610
%RMS-W-RTB, 7104 byte record too large for user's buffer
    Press return to continue

    And using TYPE:

    %TYPE-F-WRITEERR, error writing SYS$OUTPUT:.;
-RMS-F-SYS, QIO system service request failed
    -SYSTEM-F-EXQUOTA, process quota exceeded

All because of the /-\| thingy showing progress.

I have to do a CONVERT to truncate the records down to a manageable
size. Am I the only one bothered by this? Or is there something that
can be done to avoid it?

    Rgds,
    Hans

| | Hans,
Thats rather interesting. The code is *not* supposed to do that when
your running in batch. It's supposed to check to see if it's
being run from a terminal and that must not be working.

Plz IPMT this as level 3.

    REgs,
      Dan
