A customer is using PCM to manage a 10 node VMScluster. PCM is not
running on the cluster itself, but a standalone w/s.
Nodes 1-8 are DEC 2000 model 300s, while nodes 9&10 are AlphaServer
1000s.
The problem is that for node 9, the console window will hang, and the
only way to clear it up is to reboot the actual node (not the PCM
node). OPA0 is the line in question. OPA1 seems to be fine, when used
as the connection to PCM (REPLY/ENA) via the same DECserver port.
The OPA0 board has been replaced.
A different port and DECserver was used, but the problem still occurs.
The problem has also been seen on the other 1000 (node 10), but very
rare (one or twice). Node 9 seems to hang once a week.
All nodes get the same OPCOM messages (VMS 6.2, I am aware that DECnet
messages can hang the consoles, and they did hang all consoles, but
those messages have snice been turned off - again, this is a node 9
issues only).
I've tried trouble-shooting this, but it keeps coming back to the node
itself, for OPA0.
Any thoughts?

It would be nice to know what state the OPA0 port is in when it
breaks. Go into SDA on the box with the hung console and do
SDA> READ/EXEC
SDA> READ SYS$LOADABLE_IMAGES:SYSDEF
SDA> SET OUTPUT CONSOLE.LOG
SDA> SHO DEV OPA0
SDA>FORMAT UCB
SDA> EXIT
Please post CONSOLE.LOG.

The device status field has the "int" bit set which means there is
an interrupt expected. I expect it's managed to get dropped on the
floor. I used to see this problem on Nautilus when both streams were
set to OPA0 on the pro-console and we got into some flow-control
contention. What I next need you to do is set the sysgen params
TTY_ALTYAHD = 2000
TTY_ALTALARM = 640
on the PCM engine. This will require a reboot of the PCM engine. You *do
not* need to make these param changes on the serviced systems.
