1140.0. "Help on redundant Terminal Server configuration" by 37469::VAUGHN (Mike Vaughn DTN 339-5325) Tue Jan 02 1996 14:55
Hello -
In note 963 terminal server failures are discussed. I'm also
designing a system where the customer requires "no single point of failure,"
and I was wondering if anyone had any comments on how to accomplish this.
Here's what I have so far:
                             (3 lines)
                            |----------|Term. Serv. 1(Telnet)
         RS-232 ABC Switch | |
		  (customer |(3 lines) |
		   supplied)|----------|Term. Serv. 2(Telnet)
               ____________ | |
                | \ \ | |
                | \ \ | |
|---------------------------------X------------X-------X-------|
                | | | | | |
                | | | | | |
|-------------------------------X--------X-----------X---------|
                | | | | | | |
                | | | | | | |
                | | | | | | |
  AS1000 1 console | | PCM System 1 PCM System 2
        AS1000 2 console |
              AS1000 3 console
The customer would take care of supplying the ABC switch and the failover
associated with it. Specifically what do I have to do to configure PCM
to handle this type of hardware high-availability system? Is this valid,
and are there any viable alternatives? (And yes, I know that terminal
servers fail infrequently, but these guys are worried about the ethernet
cable being a single point of failure!)
Thanks in advance for any help.
mike
