Sounds like the remote system is sending out some sort of a control
signal (break?) when the system is booting which the terminal server is
interpreting as a disconnect. The terminal server then drops the
connection which PCM detects. PCM then reestablishes the connection.
The best guess is to look into the terminal server settings.
I remember hearing of some Sun systems doing this, but none of ours.
When you look into the terminal server, make sure it's software is
    up to rev.

You should also consider upgrading to PCM version 1.6.

Well, I had a chat with our local MLS+ guy and he reckons that MLS+
at that point, which just starting to boot really is no different to
OSF/1 so we're keeping this as a possible idea but will check out the
terminal server side of things first - if we don't clear it there I
think it's switch a dumb terminal to "display controls" and plug it
into the back of the box and see what's sent.
> The best guess is to look into the terminal server settings.

Do we have any good examples anywhere of what the setup on a terminal
	server should look like?

Well, it's a DECserver700 and it apparently says Version 1.5 for
ds900tm and ROM version - issue 4.0 so I'll try to find someone who
can tell me if this is up to date or not (unless someone in here
	knows).

	I thought PCM V1.6 wouldn't run on OSF/1 V2.1?
If I had that wrong please do let me know as I'm sure being on 1.6
will make life easier. Either way I've passed on that although
we don't think it will necessarily fix this issue he really should
upgrade to V1.5a at least ASAP.
Cheers

| | Apparently those two terminal server versions are both the
latest so that's that bit eliminated I guess... now all I
need is an example of what the different settings should
be to send to him to compare against his setup.

| | Does anyone have an example setting for a decserver(700) that works
for PCM to monitor a console over?

| 951.5 | WILL PCM 1.6 INSTALL ON OSF 2.1?????????? | 42326::COFFEYJ | The Uk CSC Unix Girlie. | Wed Sep 06 1995 07:03 | 17 |
| | 951.1> You should also consider upgrading to PCM version 1.6.
Can you confirm if this really is feasible for a machine based on
OSF/1 V2.1 - we're more than willing to but I was under the impression
it would barf on anything less than a V3.0 based system.
Also are there example decserver settings anywhere I can refer to?
A ds700 would be nice but any similar one (ds900) will do just to
give me something to compare it to!
In the mean time I'll see if I can persuade him to send me his
settings instead .... not that I've anything to compare them to :-)
but I'm sure I can do some basic checks.

| | As far as setting go there is very little you need to change from the
default. The following is a snapshot from a DS90TL:

    Port 2: (Remote) Server: LLANO

Character Size: 8 Input Speed: 9600
Flow Control: XON Output Speed: 9600
    Parity: None Signal Control: Disabled
    Stop Bits: Dynamic

    Access: Remote Local Switch: None
    Backwards Switch: None Name: PCM02
    Break: Remote Session Limit: 4
    Forwards Switch: None Type: Ansi
Default Protocol: Telnet Default Menu: None

    Preferred Service: None

    Authorized Groups: 63
    (Current) Groups: 63

    Enabled Characteristics:
Input Flow Control, Loss Notification, Message Codes,
    Output Flow Control, Verification

The only other thing that was changed ont his port was that it was
    enabled for listener 2002:

    Local> sho telnet list 2002

    Listener TCP-port: 2002

| | Thanks lots.....
Hopefully this'll settle it ...
....if not I guess I'll end up in political arguaments
about whether we can get 1.6 rebuilt on a 2.1 system so we
can use it on MLS+ (if we're lucky).
I assume it's possible to do but will just need paying for...

Probably. A build system will have to be put together too so it'll be
    expensive!
