    SUBJECT:  C3 Display Problems on Polycenter Console Manager (PCM)
    
    We have determined the nature of the problem with the PCM C3 display
    under FT V1.6 of the PCM product.

    VMS V6.1 w/T1.6-041 (CM) T1.6-031 (ENS)
    
    It seems there is a problem with line drawing.  In particular, any 
    attempt to place a VERTICAL line in the C3 display results in a
    significant degradation in performance in completing the C3 display.

    Symptoms include:

    (1)  REALLY SLOW completion of the C3 display draw.  The system ICONS
    are drawn on the screen fast, then there is a delay of 2-3 minutes in
    completing the scroll bars and widgets at the bottom of the C3 display.

    (2)  Horizontal lines do NOT seem to have a problem.  They are drawn,
    and the display is completed as fast as was the case prior to the V1.6
    upgrade.

    (3)  Any attempt to draw a VERTICAL line will result in the problem.
    It is noted that if the very TOP of a VERTICAL line intersects a
    horizontal line, you can observe that the vertical line is apparently
    being redrawn time and again.  The intersection of the lines shows a
    slight flicker, which may indicate that the vertical line is being
    redrawn many times, resulting in a "hung" display for some period of
    time.

    (4)  Until the C3 display draw is completed in 2-3 minutes, depending on 
    the number of vertical lines, the display station appears "hung", not
    responding to commands to pop up other windows or to iconize the C3
    display.

    It was noted that the vertical line draw is a problem with either the
    old or new format CONSOLE$C3.DAT files.

    WORKAROUND:

    You can edit the CONSOLE$C3.DAT file in you login area and remove
    all reference to line drawing in the file:

  Thanks for the information, We will try and investigate why
  the vertical lines cause a problem.

    Any progress on this issue yet?
    
    I've spent the better part of two days blaming system and network
    performance. Verified that the data file was in V1.6 format. Removed
    all of the line definitons and performance improved significantly!!!!
    (at least three orders of magnitude).
    
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Scot.
