Hi,

My customer is getting two more problems with PCM V1.5 on ALPHA VMS:


1-Sometimes the console logging hangs. The connexion can be LAT or TELNET.
  No events are trapped : he has to "reinitiate" the connexion through PCM :
	-"Monitor output <string>
	-"Console connect <node>


2-He is a getting an accvio when messages are coming from PSW.
  EventList window dissapears. My customer is using SNS$FEED_PCM.EXE 
  It doesn't crash everytime a messages is coming.

  Exactly what sequence of PCM commands is your customer typing? I dont
  recognise your MONITOR OUTPUT <STRING> command, do you mean PCM's Monitor
  interface, or the OpenVMS Monitor utility?

  What do you mean by console logging hangs? Do you mean that you get no data
  in the log files, or the monitor interface stops displaying data, please
  elaborate.

  There were a couple of fixes to the eventlist which were all rolled into
  the ECO1 patch kit.

  Unfortunately, I dont support, nor do I have access to, the sources for
  SNS$FEED_PCM.EXE, so I can't be of much help here. However, whatever the
  feed PCM utility is doing, it shouldnt cause the eventlist to crash. So,
  can you isolate which messages cause your crash?

    I had a couple of mail exchanges with the author of the base note...
    
    It comes out that the problem does not pertain to PSW nor the feeder
    (even after installing a more advanced version of the feeder, which
    source is posted into NOTED::SNS, note #416.1).

    Note the "CMUserSendEvent failed with status <204>" message -issued by
    the feeder error handling-, which appens just after a quite harmless and
    usual "disk near full" event message.
    
    According to the CMReturnStatusCodes enumeration definition into
    console.h, it must be a CM_EVENTSENDFAILED" error, raised consequently
    to the CM event list crash (the PC shown in the base note should help
    you in finding the exact location within the PCM code).
    
    Note as well that, as stated into the base note, the PCM ECO01 is
    already installed.
    
    I hope this helps you in investigating the problem.
    I'm at your disposal for the PSW and PSW to PCM feeder parts concerns.

I mean PCM's Monitor interface : The command my customer issues is :
CONSOLE MONITOR OUTPUT "string"
It is one workaround that he found to "reinitiate" the connexion.

What I mean by console logging hangs is that you get no data in the log files.

  OK, as data loggin stops, it looks to me as though your
  customer is losing connection to the remote device, Is
  he getting any events at all to say that the console has
  been "lost" if so, does the evnt say whyis there any
  reason attached?

  How is the DECserver setup?

  Each time we stop/start the consolidator while the SNS$Feed_PCM is running,
  the EventList window crashes and then the Console Notify process crashes a few
  seconds later.

  Very puzzling, Two things...

  1) What happens if you start your feeder AFTER you start PCM?

  2) Can you pull the latest ENS daemon from OPG::CM$KIT: it has a few
     problems fixed which are know to cause access violations.

    Here is the variation that I'm seeing on this problem...and I can tell
    you for sure and positively that I have not deleted any events from 
    anywhere.....
    (this is with the latest mup too)
    
    
    1.5a pcm on osf v3.2.
    
    If I start up pcm with the #console -c3 command, 
    do a commands-->console manager-->event history
    then in the Event History for system console manager I use the scroll
    bar under the window,the ones beside 'dismiss' to try and scroll up to 
    the top of the list, my console mgr window is blown away and I get the
    error 'event pleted no longer in database'.     
    If I don't use the arrows by 'dismiss' and use the scroll bar to the
    right of the window, nothing gross happens, but I don't get all of the
    events that I do using the other arrows.
    
    Has this been IPMTd or should I go ahead and do that?

I had the exact same problem using the event history option and the solution
(thanks to Phil & Simon) is to delete your existing logfiles and have PCM create
new ones.
