In the event list window that is assocoated with the C3, there are
a lot of Console Manager events. These may also be looked upon as
error messages. Do these correlate directly with the error messages
that are in the documentation? I am seeing the following three
error messages and trying to trace down the problem:
1. CMgr Console NOT Found - Unable to open console for system foobar
- Can't assign requested address.
2. CMgr Console NOT Found - Unable to open console for system xyz
- Mount device busy.
3. CMgr Console Lost - Console link for system abc lost
- Bad file number.
Do the 'CMgr Console NOT Found' and 'CMgr Console Lost' translate to an
error message?

Dave,
Yes, they are errot messages, the 'CMgr Console NOT Found' means that CM
couldnt get to the console, so there is most likely a problem with the
server, or the unix device you specified in the database, and the 'CMgr
Console Lost' is telling you that we had a connection and it has now
for some reason gone away, possibly due to a network problem, or the
DECserver being rebooted, this last message shouldnt be too much of a
problem as CM will retry and connect to the DECserver, however, if the
DECserver is bouncing up and down and this message is appearing
repeatedly for the same console, then you have a real problem.
Do you think we need to change the docs? If so, what would you like to
see in them?
Cheers,
Phil

Phil,
In the error Messages section, their is a bolded line. I'm not sure
what it is. It appears to be message text. I would first suggest that
this documentation text be the same as the Information field in the
event list window. Abovew that, also in bold or italic, i would
identify a name which in this case would be the 'event name' field in
the window. Finally, if you gat a chance, what would be really nice and
tastefull would be for the cause and action to appear in the popup
window when you try to get the context. It would definately speed
things up a bit in trying to solve the problem and might even save
us some money by elimating some support calls.

Dave, We shall see what we can do, I will take a look at what I can do in the event list window. On the documentation front, Karen, are you reading this, can you take a look at the stuff Dave is talking about. Cheers, Phil | |||||
