What Base Level are you using ? Here is what is happening:
1. In baselevels 7 and 8, language-specific text strings could
be overridden by placing definitions in the file known
as DOC$LOCAL_ELEMENTS.
However, some DESIGN or DTP files contained English definitions
which overrode the names in DOC$LOCAL_ELEMENTS. To correct this,
you need to make a copy of the DESIGN file you are using,
remove the \gdef\TOCfigurehead, etc., place the modified file
in DOC$LOCAL_FORMATS or DOC$PERSONAL_FORMATS, and enter the
name in the appropriate DOC$DESIGNS.DAT file.
(I know this sounds complicated, but it is described in the
documentation, in the Doctype Designer's Guide.
2. In Version 1.0 (baselevel 9), we modified the way that the
text strings are managed, so that there is a file that
contains definitions for the various strings. When an SDML
source file contains the <LANGUAGE> tag, the strings for that
language are used.
The DEC internal kit for V1.0 contains a file in
DOC$ROOT:[LOCAL.FORMATS]CUP$EUROPE_ELEMENTS.TEX that has
entries for German, Dutch, and a few Italian names. To
add Swedish support to this file, you could copy one set of
definitions and create a set. (If you look at the file, you will
easily see how things are layed out.)
It will be a while before we here in the DOCUMENT group will be
able to distribute a file with all the correct strings for all
the languages. (I hope you can understand the complexity of the
task!) Anyone who goes to the trouble of writing language strings
for a language we do not have yet, please send them to me. The
more we have for testing and debugging purposes, the better off
we will all be.
