You should do a DIR/TITLE="font" in the notesfile REGENT::LN03.
This will show you the tools you need including yet another notesfile
which is dedicated to just fonts.

| And if you are really desparate, you can create your own using the
MetaFont system of Knuth (it's really the second leg of TeX). It's
available from TALLIS::S1:[MF...] or [MF84...], I keep forgetting.
See the VAXUUM::TEX notesfile for some (not much) more info.

I am not interested in "designing" my own font as WYNFORD is.
However, I *am* looking for a way to "link" a particular font into
a DOCUMENT document, like WYNFORD.
Specifically:
- I have a downloadable LN03 "bar code" font. (Works just like
any other font file.)
- I wish to print some lines using this bar code font within
my document.
- Printing these bar codes within the context of a <FIGURE>
is acceptable. I do not need to include bar codes within
other contexts of the document.
** My question is, of course, "How might I accomplish this?" **
Before you answer, a few more miscellaneous points to make:
- I do not "really" wish to SCAN pre-printed bar code images
and turn them into .SIXEL files. (I don't have a scanner,
besides.)
- I do not "really" wish to draw bar codes sixel-by-sixel or
anything else so tedious. I want to use the bar code font
that has already been created.
- I have already tried including a <Figure_File>. The Figure File
contained 1) the bar code font 2) the data-to-print (including
the "assign font" and "select SGR" sequences).
- I am not [yet] a "DOC-jock," but I guess I am willing to become
one if that's what it takes!

The EDU$EDUOVER.LN03_FONTS file has an example of how to specify
a non-standard font; it assumes that you already have TFM and NFT
files for the font?

the file? (I missed the context somewhere.)
re: .5 "TFM and NFT files" - are there utilities for creating said
files? The Barcode font currently exists in only CFFF binary form.
re: .1 "dedicated to fonts" - Clarification: please put
font & typeface related notes into the conference REGENT::FONTS,
LN03 & LN03S notes into REGENT::LN03,
PostScript notes into REGENT::POSTSCRIPT,
LN03R (PostScript printer) notes into REGENT::SCRIPTPRINTER,
LPS40 related notes into REGENT::PRINTSERVER,
and video terminal notes in VIDEO::TERMINALS.

Sorry, that reference was to DOC$LOCAL_FORMATS:EDU$EDUOVER.LN03_FONTS
and the related .DESIGN file. This won't do you much good, however,
unless you have TFM and NFT files.
The font wizards who know how to create TFM and NFT files are all
on vacation. There is some 'black art' involved at present, though
we hope to simply the procedures for adding local fonts.

| I think I need the same thing. I've got a customer that wants to
put their logo in their documents. I can create the logo using
SIGHT, but how do I stick different sized logos into the document?
I made a tag so I could put our office address and DEC logo in letters,
but don't know if this is the best way for a customer to do this.
How do people like CUP do this? I've seen the CUP logo at the end
of sentences and all sorts of places. How do you get it there?
What are my options?

| See the VAXUUM::TEX notesfile for information on fonts usable for
TeX (and hence for Document).
The program to make "description files" that can be converted into
GF (generic fonts) files and those into pixel, packed or whatever.
The Metafont book of Donald Knuth explains how to do it.
It's not easy. In my opinion it's even boring. It also sounds like
the thing to do in 1978 and not to do in 1987...
