    We currently try to use MMS to keep our documentation up-to-date,
    but found a funny behaviour today:

    If I define

    DOCUMENT /BATCH /more_qualifiers source.SDML doctype destination

    to be the execution part of an MMS dependency table, the /BATCH
    qualifier seems to be ignored - I get all DOCUMENT messages to
    the terminal and must wait until all the tag translation, TEX
    formatting, ... stuff has finished.

    If I enter the *same* command interactively, the behaviour is as
    expected.

    Any ideas ?
    Hans.

         Bug, will be fixed for V1.0 -- Gee, this is an obscure
         feature of MMS and was never tested for, thanks for pointing
         it out.

| 460.3 | if f$mode() .EQS. "OTHER" then this must be MMS | WRONGO::PARMENTER | Wed Jun 03 1987 16:25 | 5 | |
| In case you were wondering, the problem was that in MMS, f$mode()
    returned "OTHER" rather than "INTERACTIVE" or "BATCH", I always
    wondered what "OTHER" could possible mean, and now we know.

| 460.4 | Maybe a related problem | CONRAD::SERACK | Ken Serack | Wed Jun 03 1987 16:51 | 17 |
| We are also having a problem with document and mms.

    It seems that if I do:

    	$ document file doctype dest /NOLOG

    as my mms command line, I get a lot of 0 length records in the output
    stream during text formatting. Actually the log file contains 0
    length records even outside of mms. They do not show up when you
    type the file, but if you do a dump/record, all of the records are
    shown and there are a lot of 0 lengths.

    Is it possible that TEX is outputting 0 length records for some
    reason, and could they be turned off?
