When I was attempting a book build today the following message
    was displayed:

%PAS-F-VARINDVAL Varying index volume is greater than current
    length.

Unfortunately it was the only message I got before I was
unceremoniously dumped to a DCL prompt. There was no reference
to a line number nor file.

I tried building my book without the /CONTENTS and /INDEX qualifiers
but to no avail. I then ran each chapter separately until I found
the offending tag: a comment with no end paren. The comment was
    in an included file.
I found no documentation on the error message, hence this note.
