I've been trying to modify the DOCUMENT doctypes to be more
suitable for the Swedish language. I've been succesful doing so,
apart from one thing: It seems to be impossible to redefine the
preface heading in the MANUAL doctype.
In the directory DOC$STANDARD_FORMATS, the files
TAG$M_REFERENCE.DTP
TAG$M_GUIDE.DTP
have been modified to include the TeX statements
\def\Chaptername{Kapitel}
.
.
.
\def\Prefacename{Frord}
for all these ``Names'' as they are called in the manual. All
these modifications give the desired result, except that the
preface heading still is ``Preface'' and there is nothing I can do
to change it.
Am I overlooking something trivial here, or have I found a bug?

You have found a bug (this is already fixed here for the next update).
What you need to do for now is to modify the file in
DOC$STANDARD_FORMATS:TAG$M_GUIDE.DTP. In the definition of \preface
in that file, you will see where it outputs the word 'Preface'.
Change this to \Prefacename in order for your definition to work.
