166.0. "PROFILE and Headings" by DLO06::DAVIS (Jerry Davis @DLO 451-2929) Fri Mar 27 1987 16:30
    I would like to start using PROfile but...
    Most of what we do is Functional Specs, and Design Specs, using
    the General Doctype with NO chapters just headings.

    If I read the documentation right, I can't have a file that isn't
    one of those mentioned (ie. front_matter, chapter, part, appendix,
    or glossary).

    1) BTW is backmatter with <index_file> NOT an element?
    2) Why couldn't you include a <HEAD1> tag in the above list as
        opposed to <chapter>?

    Regards.

| 166.1 | Agree, function needed but what's the best way? | COOKIE::JOHNSTON |  | Fri Mar 27 1987 19:46 | 12 |
| | I'd rather not see <HEADx> treated as an element; I think it could get
confusing as to when it required <ELEMENT> or <INCLUDES_FILE>. But
.0 points out why we sometimes need unnumbered chapters.
Or how about allowing <TITLE> to have a symbolic name, to be used outside
<TITLE_PAGE>/<ENDTITLE_PAGE>, and to be a PROfile element?
Other ideas?

| 166.2 | more to think about | CLOSET::ANKLAM |  | Tue Mar 31 1987 18:15 | 11 |

    will have to put books with non-elements and <title>s as elements
    on the list of things to look at later.

    it is possible to use <part>s as elements in a functional spec.
    (note that the use of <part> doesn't require a <part_page> tag)
    However, the heading level numbering won't be preserved during
    'element' builds. I'll think on this later, too.
