I seem to be having a bit of trouble printing a *small* file on
our LN03. I seem to be getting nothing but blank pages. The file
contains the following:
-----------------
<p>
<p>
this is a test of the document installation.
<p>
<p>
-----------------
The facts are:
1) We have both BL06 and BL07 (T1.0) installed on our
cluster. (11780 w/ VMS 4.5)
2) The commands used to process the file is:
$document/noprint test general ln03
$print/queue=FSELN03/nofeed/passall test.ln3
3) The result is the same under both BL06 and BL07.
4) If I double the contents of the file, it works fine.
5) The text *is* in the .dvi_ln3.
6) The installation happened uneventfully - BL06 and BL07
reside on different disks.
7) The BASELEVEL command procedure mentioned in a previous
note seems to be working satisfactorily.
8) Works fine for line printer output.
Have I done something wrong? Is there some sort of minimum
character requirement? Is this a 'feature' telling me not to waste
LN03 paper on a single line of output ;-( ? Is there something I'm
missing that's in the documentation (that's being reproduced so I
don't have it next to me)? Is this a hardware problem with our
LN03? (The LN03 has 2 RAM cartridges, the base revision level is
4.4, and the switch settings are correct.)
Files available upon request.

A couple more questions:
Does this happen every time you print this file, and not happen
every time that you print other files? Just thinking about needing
a reset sequence between jobs. Does turning the ln03 off and on
affect the printing? (Also, does the dreaded 2-4 sequence appear
on the printer?)
There is not, to my knowledge, any Save-the-Trees code in Document

I have only seen it when trying to print out few-line files.
There has been no problem printing the larger documents that are
part of our every day life. I was just trying to play with T1.0 and
see how the different doctypes looked and didn't want to work with
a big file.
I created another file, only smaller - a short line of text
sandwiched between two <p>'s, and that one gave me blank paper,
too.
> Does turning the ln03 off and on affect the printing?
No. Same result.
> Also, does the dreaded 2-4 sequence appear on the printer?
No.

I tried this file:
<p>
small
<p>
running it:
$ document smallfile general ln03
and it came out fine. I'll contact you by mail.
