1328.0. "Windows Magazine's misleading TPC article" by STRWRS::KOCH_P (It never hurts to ask...) Tue Dec 21 1993 19:53
In Windows Magazine, January 1994, page 31, there is a piece by
Editor-at-large John Ruley discussing how NT challenges mainframe
servers. In the article, they publish 2 TPC-B benchmarks for a VAX-9000
    running VMS 5.4 and a VAX-6000 running VMS V5.5.

This article is HIGHLY misleading and show Digital in an extremely bad
light. Also, it states TPC-B benchmark numbers created by a third party
consultant to the TPC (as stated in the article).

I can fax a copy of this 1 page article to anyone. I'd like to see a
response to this gentleman as he, IMHO, doesn't know what TPC rating
    are. Any takers?

I'll also fax the address page so you can write or phone him.

I've looked over a copy of the article with one of Digital's TPC reps (Mike
Brey).
The bar chart at the bottom is accurate. The VAX numbers displayed are
TPC-B numbers currently published by TPC. They were run and submitted by
Sybase, not Digital, and do not reflect any DECRdb numbers at all. Other
platforms represented on the chart (other than VAXes) were run by the
respective vendors.
We're still reviewing the text of the article to make sure there are no
issues with the wording.
