In a competetive situation the customer is looking for a portable 4gl tool under RISC/Ultrix. How about Ingres tools? Do they run under other platforms like HP? Also, POWERHOUSE or FOCUS maybe good candidates since they support multiple platforms. But do they support our ULTRIX/SQL product? Best Regards, Ali Ameli

There are a lot of portable 4GL toolsets that run on ULTRIX. Some, like
Oracle , INGRES, etc. run only on their "captive" RDBMS engines. Some,
like UNIFY ACCELL, etc. run on various RDBMS engines. In addition,
there are 3rd party tool vendors such as IBI FOCUS, JYACC, Natural
Language, etc. than run across most or all of the RDBMS engines.
Almost all of these run across multiple platforms, such as HP, IBM,
DEC, SUN, SEQUENT, etc.

Also, the August 5, 1991 edition of DIGITAL NEWS has a feature article
on 4GL products starting of page 31. It lists most of the 4gls that
support VMS, ULTRIX, and UNIX. If you are not in a position to get
access to the issue, let me know via mail & I will copy & forward.

| 970.4 | Uniface is a candidate too | IJSAPL::OLTHOF | Henny Olthof @UTO 838-2021 | Fri Aug 09 1991 08:31 | 6 |
Uniface is seen by a number of experts as one of the best 4GL's around.
And it works on various platforms. It also supports (or will in the
very near future support) Ultrix/SQL. Check with your local Uniface
representative. Send me a MAIL if you don't know who that is.
