| | Yes ;-)

    Now to the unasked question:

The winners tied for 1st place are Rdb/VMS and Ingres.

Not bad, our VMS and ULTRIX dbs were winners. Sell them proudly.

| | Obviously, the word still has not spread to all internal groups that databases
in general, and Rdb soecifically, are important to our customers. Anyone care
to join me in suggesting as much to the editors of "digital today," a newspaper
primarily for the U.S. Field organization?

Subject: VAX Rdb/VMS Wins "digital review" award
Dear digital today Editor,
I noticed in your January 28, 1991 edition that you mention Digital products
and services that won digital review's Target Awards for 1991 in a story
headlined "Digital Products and Services receive digital review awards."
One important win you did not mention in the story is that of VAX Rdb/VMS.
Rdb shared the award for best relational database with Ingres.
This win is important because more and more customers are using relational
database products to store their corporate data. Data, for most
enterprises, is their "life blood." Speed, efficiency, integrity and
security are the most often mentioned reasons by customers, when asked why
they choose Rdb.
Rdb is a key way for customers to integrate their enterprise even if it
contains data in many forms on many systems.
VAX Rdb/VMS is the database of choice on VAX!
Regards,
Bruce Langston

    Best Database Management System (6.2)

    Best Database Tools (SQL*Forms)

Best CASE Software (CASE*Dictionary (tie with DEFT 4.1 from Sybase))

down here. How did we let this happen?

| | re.6 84,000 readers submitted their votes. Digital does its best to
get as many DEC employees as possible to vote for certain products, but
I guess the majority of voters liked the Oracle products. We didn't
"let this happen", the readers (primarily VAX/VMS) made it happen with
    their votes.

If Digital employees are capable of "stuffing the ballot box", then so
are Oracle employees. In fact, I would assume that Oracle has more
employees interested in stuffing the box for this award than Digital.
It may even be the case that Digital has more employees interested in
stuffing the box for Oracle than for Digital.
