| 746.1 | Use VIDA for IDMS/R | MUNICH::KONOPIK | It's all magic ... | Wed Sep 26 1990 09:00 | 7 |

	If you mean by IDMS the database from Cullinet (IDMS/R) on IBM, than
	you can use VIDA for accessing data from your VAX. Note the access is
	read-only on record level and read-write only for copying a complete
	table into IDMS/R.

|  |     Coreen,

    Could you please give some more information about what you mean by
    front-ending. Also give some idea of what the IBM hardware/software is.

    If your goal is to accept transactions and do data editing/validation
    before they are processed against the IDMS/R database then you should
    not have to many problems.

    Please note, I believe Digital's support for VIDA for IDMS/R has
    stopped. You can check this out with Ann Thomas on CREDIT.

| 746.3 | very little info | ODIXIE::GAYNOR |  | Wed Sep 26 1990 19:42 | 5 |
| | The only information that I have is that the customer has an IDMS/DB2
    system running on a 30/9200, and don't want to get a cpu
    upgrade.

| 746.4 | Continuing saga - CA-IDMS/VAX ? | HAM::CALCOTT | Gary Calcott, EIS, 862-9398 | Mon Jan 21 1991 10:59 | 15 |
| | Could anyone provide a status for the scenario described in .0 please.

    We too have been asked to investigate the feasibility of purely
    offloading some subset of an IDMS/DB application from a very saturated
    3090 to one or more VAX "front ends".

    I have a Product Announcement from CA for a product names 'CA-IDMS/VAX'
    which purports to be <quote> fully compatibe with CA-IDMS/DB and
    CA-IDMS/DC on the IBM mainframe. <endquote>.

    Availibility is Beta Release 2nd Qtr. 1991.

    Does anybody know the truth ?

    Gary.
