REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:
ORCL), developer and marketer of the ORACLE(R) relational database
management system, today announced cost reductions resulting from
reorganizations and consolidations of many management and
administrative functions. The Company has made these reductions in
order to bring its fiscal year 1991 expenses in line with its fiscal
year revenue growth plan, adjusted two weeks ago to 25 percent.
The reductions and consolidations include an approximate
10 percent reduction in the Company's domestic workforce of
4,000 people.
The Oracle USA Finance and Administration group was consolidated
into the Company's Corporate Finance and Administration group under
Jeffrey L. Walker, who was promoted to Executive Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer. ``With this consolidation,'' said Lawrence
J. Ellison, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of
Oracle Corporation, ``we will reduce costs and further improve the
controls on our business.''
The Oracle USA field operations group, under the new leadership of
Michael S. Fields, has also been reorganized, reducing the number of
levels in the organizational hierarchy from five to three in order to
reduce the number of sales managers while increasing the number of
sales representatives. ``In this way,'' said Ellison, ``we will have
reduced sales expenses and increased sales capacity.'' Mike Fields
was recently named the new President of Oracle USA. He sits on the
Company's management committee and reports to Geoffrey W. Squire,
who continues as President of Worldwide Distribution.
The Company also announced the consolidation of its International
organization into a single group reporting directly to Geoff Squire.
Peter R. Tierney, former head of the Intercontinental organization,
is no longer with the Company.

and overwhelming as all of them are, is necessary for Oracle
Corporation's return to health and profitability in the second
quarter.''
